We can look at the suspension and all that at the end of the year, but they should have been able to do something about the situation before it got to that point, if it is really true that his teammates hated him, etc. Signing a guy to a big contract, who you know can have problems, not being able to deal with those problems, and then basically coming out and saying that you MUST trade the guy after suspending him=fucking yourself in the ass. The only advantage of this trade is that they saved a little money. Anything beyond that is wishful thinking. Unfortunately, in saving a little money, we now are missing a player who even in a bad year, is decent. This whole situation is such an epic fail on the part of the Cubs, it's pretty unbelievable.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->
That pretty much sums it up.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

I actually agree with a lot of that, but once the bridge was burned, there was no alternative. And this isn't about Silva, it's about getting rid of Bradley.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Pretty much. I don't know what else was supposed to be done. It was clear the rest of the man's teammates did not want to play with him here. Him staying here just wasn't going to happen. As far as Silva goes, obviously we couldn't get anything better for him. Be thankful we didn't have to eat Bradely's contract.

The only silver lining I can see is that this might be Hendry's last year as an employee of the Cubs. This could be the nail in the coffin.

See, Butch? There is a silver lining afterall.

My view:

We had a few million to be spent on some FAs, and had to get rid of Bradley for a multitude of reasons.

We got rid of him, and added to the pot. Silva is just a non-issue, like someone said earlier. He's just the vehicle for getting more funds for FAs. We could have released MB, and had the same result, sans $6Million. Who knows, maybe this could allow us to pursue someone better than Byrd.

Who cares what Bradley does now, and Silva is irrelevant in the whole scheme of things. If Silva does anything, great, if not, then that's fine too because he's just taking up a spot on the 40-man. That's all.

This could have been way worse. Blame Hendry for signing Bradley in the first place, not dealing him this way.
I hate my pretentious sounding username too.

Not ideally, but Hendry took this battle on and has proven that he wasn't up to the challenge. If only the whole situation were merely academic, where Hendry could shrug his shoulders and say, "Well, I tried. I guess there's no reaching the fucker." But this wasn't an exercise it was a bad business move that ends up having the effect of getting two expensive years of Carlos Silva.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

I will say that I don't think Lou ever made much of an effort to work with him. Obviously we don't know what really happened, but those two were never on the same page. On previous teams where he had success I seem to recall reading about how the manager really made an effort to mesh with Bradley. Given that he's basically a big, petulant child, just showing him some attention and appreciation might have been all it took. Instead they butted heads.

Just more pap from a guy who obviously has less tolerance for the poor behavior of a black man, than he does for a white man in the same situation.

That would be the most glorious outcome imaginable. If this leads to Hendry's ouster, I would consider Bradley-for-Sliva to be better for the Cubs than DeJesus for Bowa and Ryne Sandburg.

But be serious, Butch. Ricketts is likely smoking a big black cigar with Jim at this very moment, chortling about how happy they are about the wonderful way that the Bradley situation turned out.
