This is an absolute joke. The Ricketts family sure is working hard to endear themselves to the fanbase.

Bradley could easily bounce back and have a good, if not great season. Silva? Not a chance.

Fuck me right in the ass.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->
It's funny the way attitudes change. I haven't paid that much attention to this board for the last few months because I don't like to get involved with the 1000 rumors, 7 of which turn out to be true, but at the end of the season nobody was saying Bradley could easily bounce back and have a great season.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
On another team? Lots of people said he could be productive on another team -- just not the Cubs.

I think he could have bounced back with the Cubs, but he'd have to grovel a lot with the fans/players/management...and that was never going to happen. He wanted to leave and he got his wish.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

so if that is the case, what did you really expect to get back for him?
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
This is my point. Any one with half a baseball brain knew the Cubs were trying to trade him and had to. Why offer any thing decent back?

Hendry's just going to spend that $4M on Scotty Pods. What's the fucking point? Silva is either going to get a fake injury, sit on the bench, or suck total ass every five days.

There's no silver lining to this trade. None.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

But he wasn't coming back either way. He wasn't coming back. he wasn't coming back. He wasn't coming back. Why is this so hard to understand? He was suspended for conduct detrimental to the team. he bashed the Cubs in the media, his manager called him a piece of shit. Derrek fucking Lee didn't like him for God's sake. He called the fans racist. he threw a ball into the stands with two outs. His own batting coach hated him and that guy was black.

He was never ever ever going to rebound from that. It wasn't gonna happen.

If Bradley stayed and went 0-14 to start the year, how would the fans have reacted? His own fucking teammates applauded when he was suspended.

There si a silver lining: Bradley's gone. That's all that matters. The fact that we got money back is icing on the cake.

There would have been a media/fan lynch mob in front of Hendry the first day of ST if Bradley was on the roster then. As soon as he got suspended at the end of the year, he was done being a Chicago Cub.

Isn't it actually $5M? Bradley gets 21, Silva gets 23 (11.5 per) plus 2=25. 21-25+9=5.

I'm probably wrong, so just tell me where.

The 6 mil savings includes the buy out. I am glad Bradly is gone. He played more than his career average games, and his OPS was not that far off his career, yet he was a bust production wise - not just personality wise. I think he is bad for the clubhouse, not because he is an asshole, but because his production is less than his numbers.

Just like the real world. We don't mind an asshole that does his job. We don't like the asshole that makes it look like he does his job, while we pick up the slack.

If Hendry decided that bringing Bradley back was the best option, better measures could have been taken. He didn't have to spend the entire offseason trashing him to the media. He could have orchestrated a big public apology. Things could have happened differently.

There isn't anything we can do, however, to make Carlos Silva an effective major league pitcher.

Define "suck."
Here's a way to do it in a factual manner...by comparing how a player performs compared to all other MLB players.... OPS+ for hitters, and ERA+ for pitchers. A score of 100 is baseline. Above 100, is good. Below 100, isn't that good. Over 125 is star-quality. Under 75 is hideous.

Bradley in 2008...161
Bradley in 2009...99

Silva in 2008...65
Silva in 2009...50

Bradley was average last year, and MVP-calibre the year before.
Silva just <i>sucks</i>.
