It's funny the way attitudes change. I haven't paid that much attention to this board for the last few months because I don't like to get involved with the 1000 rumors, 7 of which turn out to be true, but at the end of the season nobody was saying Bradley could easily bounce back and have a great season.

I kinda have to agree. I'm glad bradley's gone and as bad as this deal seems, it's better than I thought it would be.

On another team? Lots of people said he could be productive on another team -- just not the Cubs.

I think he could have bounced back with the Cubs, but he'd have to grovel a lot with the fans/players/management...and that was never going to happen. He wanted to leave and he got his wish.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

so if that is the case, what did you really expect to get back for him?
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
I wanted to keep him. Of every option available, keeping him was the best one.

Silva's bad, no doubt, but the Cubs actually re-couped money in the deal rather than pay it out. And of course, being SOI, we must complain about it.
I got nothin'.

The fact we got anything back for him is amazing to me. The fact we freed up $6 mil is amazing to me. The fact that we didn't just cut him for nothing is amazing to me. Now let's see what Hendry has in store. The roadblock is gone, time to start making deals.

To be clear, I'm happy Bradley is gone. Did I expect an all-star in return? No. Did I expect us to clear some payroll? Yes. That's the good part. Did I expect us to get a completely useless player in return? No. I figured we could get some useful part, not necessarily an everyday player, but possibly a bench player or someone who is overpaid, but still provides value. Let's not forget, Bradley isn't a useless player, he is just a giant douche. I guess there weren't many options out there, but Silva was the absolute worst case scenario in my opinion.

It was never an option. Ever. and if it was, it would have blown up in our faces and you'd be pissed that we didn't trade him.

Let it go. Keeping him was never an option. It would never have worked. Deep down inside you know it.

we recouped money that will be spent on Byrd, podsednik or ankiel... Mb and harden or Byrd/pods/ankiel and silva? Regardless of which we end up with, its a downgrade in talent

Not if Harden is hurt and Bradley wouldn't play for us.

I would have rather paid $21M to a giant douche who might hit a little than $16M to a pitcher who will have us longing for Jason Marquis. We saved $6M. Great. There's a $2M buyout at the end of Silva's contract (I'm assuming we're not going to pick up his option). So we're saving $4M. Hendry's just going to spend that $4M on Scotty Pods. What's the fucking point? Silva is either going to get a fake injury, sit on the bench, or suck total ass every five days.

There's no silver lining to this trade. None.

But he wasn't coming back either way. He wasn't coming back. he wasn't coming back. He wasn't coming back. Why is this so hard to understand? He was suspended for conduct detrimental to the team. he bashed the Cubs in the media, his manager called him a piece of shit. Derrek fucking Lee didn't like him for God's sake. He called the fans racist. he threw a ball into the stands with two outs. His own batting coach hated him and that guy was black.

He was never ever ever going to rebound from that. It wasn't gonna happen.

If Bradley stayed and went 0-14 to start the year, how would the fans have reacted? His own fucking teammates applauded when he was suspended.

There si a silver lining: Bradley's gone. That's all that matters. The fact that we got money back is icing on the cake.

What decent CF do you have in mind for $4 Million (and yes, it's 4, not 6).

If I could shit gold, I'd be a millionaire.

What CF out there can even qualify as decent? And if there was one, $6 isn't going to get it done. And Carlos Silva is god-awful. He couldn't be a 5th starter for the Pirates.

So, yeah -- if those things could happen, then great. But they can't.

I agree too. And if we can also improve our middle IF, and possibly add another reliever or bench player, I won't care about this deal.

I have my doubts though.

It IS a good point and I DO agree. This sucks, but it had to happen. There was no alternative.
