Cubs to bid for 2014 All-Star Game

During a one-on-one with Levine, Ricketts didn't deny pursuing the game was part of his agenda.

"It would be off the charts," Ricketts said when asked what it would mean to the fans. "It would be magical. Let's hope we have that opportunity."

The All-Star Game would be part of the celebration of the 100th anniversary of Wrigley Field. By that time, the Ricketts family is expected to have spent between $200 million and $300 million in renovations on Wrigley.

This is the single biggest thing that I wanted to see the Rickets family do. I know that most people thin Wrigley is a shrine to baseball, and it definately holds it's own charm, but I refuse to take my boys into such a pit of a baseball field. I'm really happy that they will be bringing the field up to speed in terms of cleanliness and making it more family freindly.

I don't strenuously object to it. It's just not something I think should be a high priority. I guess I see it happening if the renovations are complete by the anniversary abd the place is worth celebrating.

I just don't think hosting the ASG really matters...building a winning team matters.

I've also taken my 5 yr old daughter there and had no issues. She had a great time every time too.

Maybe they can...maybe they can't. It's a risk. I want Ricketts to keep his eye on the ball. Attention is zero-sum. I don't there's such a thing as multi-tasking. There's just juggling. This is another ball to juggle. The question is whether this distracts attention from where it could be better spent.

Serving the commissioner, the other owners, the television network, the advertisers, the corporate guests...all these masters must be served when hosting the ASG...and he starts with a facility that's not ready for that task. What he does to the facility needs to be informed by well, none of those influences. If he does what he needs to do to Wrigley, it will become ASG friendly. But that's not the same as how the ASG goal could influence those changes.

Well I think Ricketts is going to have a lot more to do the updating of Wrigley and the everyday business side of the Cubs than he is the product that is on the field. That is what his GM and others are there for. I personally would love to see Wrigley host the All Star game again.

Bingo. That is what you have a staff for. If this organization can only handle one project at a time, then they should give up now. The renovations of Wrigley and hosting the AS game should go hand in hand, so it's not like management would be taking on considerably more than was originally planned.

Renovating Wrigley is important to the fans, not the product on the field. Yes, it would be nice to have larger facilities for the players, but in reality, I can't see where they would find the room on the premises. If it's to build the triangle building, super, but will it be connected somehow to Wrigley? I can't imagine the players running between the two buildings during a game.
