Bradley

Their stats are actually pretty similar this season, but Burrell could thrive back in the NL. At least he has had some years of consistent 30 HR, 90 RBI production with OPSs around .900. If we're going to trade a bad contract for another, he's a good risk to take.

There was a rumor in NY that the Mets might be interested in Bradley if we took Oliver Perez off their hands. Intriguing, but I think I'd pass, mainly because of the length of his contract.

No, but it would be nice to get someone who at least had a better season than Burrell, but if he's all we can get, then sure, I'd rather have him than the dickhead we currently have.

I'd trade MB for Burrell. I'd even offer to pick up $4-5 million of his 2011 salary. Burrell is still pretty good and has never been a pain in the ass to my knowledge.

If you can get Burrell for MB you do it yesterday.

I agree. Burrell never hits for a really high average, but his OBP is solid and he'll give you 30 homers almost every season. I'll bet he bounces back next year (especially if he moves back to the NL).

Plus, he's white. And you know how Cubs fans love their white players...

<!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->Stark On Bradley & Zambrano
By Ben Nicholson-Smith [September 24 at 12:48pm CST]

ESPN.com's Jayson Stark hears that the Cubs will likely try to move Milton Bradley for another "problem" player this offseason. Eric Byrnes, Pat Burrell and Bronson Arroyo haven't been discussed, but they are the kind of expensive player the Cubs might consider trading Bradley away for. There will likely be takers for the unpredictable outfielder, despite his year-long struggle in Chicago.

Stark hears that Bradley's teammate, Carlos Zambrano, is far less likely to be traded. Baseball men say the Cubs have never shown any interest in dealing the big righty, so he's likely to be their Opening Day starter once again in 2010.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

So Sully made the whole thing up? Color me shocked.

As for Burrell, I'd make the deal, but I'm not sure he'd look too good in RF.
The thing you need to remember is that all Cardinals fans and all White Sox fans are very bad people. It's a fact that has been scientifically proven beyond a shadow of a doubt. Being a Cubs fan is the only path to rightousness and piousness. Cardinal and White Sox fans exist to be the dark, diabolical forces that oppose us. They are the yin to our yang, the Joker to our Batman, the demon to our angel, the insurgence to our freedom, the oil to our water, the club to our baby seal. Their happiness occurs only in direct conflict with everything that is pure and good in this world.

Byrnes would be the much better defensive player, but I would gladly take Burrell and his terrible defense over Byrnes and his sub .650 OPS.

I believe it has been said here before:
Byrnes would die if he played regularly in our OF.

Fuck Byrnes. He's nothing more than a role player. We already have enough of those types, and is nowhere near being worth the $10 mil per he's owed.

Byrnes is a douche. Don't want him.

<!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->Earlier Friday, San Diego general manager Kevin Towers seemed to make an early pitch for Bradley, who has two years and $21 million left on his three-year contract.

''They say women marry men thinking they can change them, and it's amazing how many baseball teams do the same thing with players,'' said one longtime talent evaluator, whose team passed on a chance to acquire Bradley as a prospect and still wants no part of him.

Towers told ESPN.com that he's open to discussing a trade to reacquire Bradley, who hit .313 with 11 homers in 42 games for San Diego in 2007 after a trade from Oakland.

Bradley's 2007 season ended the final weekend of that season when he blew out his knee as manager Bud Black tried to restrain him during an altercation with umpire Mike Winters.

''I haven't had any calls from Jim about him,'' Towers told the Web site, ''but people kind of know what players we target. We have to take chances sometimes. We took a chance with Milton the first time, and he actually played pretty well.

''We could be in the market for an outfielder. I'm not saying it's necessarily Milton. But our experience with him was rather a positive one. It wasn't really a negative one.''<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

The problem with the Padres is there is only one bad contract we could swap and it's not even really bad. Chris Young get's $6.5mill next year and $8.5mill in 2011. I know he had a terrible year, but he had a sub 4.00 ERA his first three years with the Padres. Plus, he may be the only guy in all of MLB that we could acquire and find him face down dead in the showers at Wrigley with a Derrek Lee cleat stuck up his ass.

If we could swap Bradley for Young and minimize the amount of prospects we would have to supplement the deal with, I'd be all for it. The Padres just don't seem like a team willing to take on a large contract for obvious reasons.

I'd rather give up cash than prospects.

Has anyone posted this quote from Sully?
It's an interesting option, a plausible one.
To me, it sucks, because Rowand isn't nearly as good of a hitter as Bradley, but the reality is, he might end up as a Cub.
<!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->If the Cubs want to swap bad contracts, as they did in the Hundley deal, the Giants may be Hendry's best option. Center fielder Aaron Rowand has not put up the kind of numbers expected in San Francisco and has three years remaining for $36 million.

Rowand is two years removed from a 27-homer, 89-RBI season for the Phillies and would be a good fit in the Cubs clubhouse.

"Cubs fans would fall in love with him, for sure," Cubs outfielder Reed Johnson said. "He did well on the other side of town, and I know people ... appreciate the way he plays the game."

Like Bradley, Rowand is having an off-year offensively, and his power numbers have gone down in spacious AT & T Park. Entering Friday night, he had 63 RBIs with 15 home runs and 30 doubles.

"But he takes responsibility for stuff," Johnson said. "If you ask him, he'll tell you he could be playing better than he is now. But this is a tough park to put up power numbers. If he went to a place like Wrigley, he'd be like he was in Philly."<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->
There's nothing better than to realize that the good things about youth don't end with youth itself. It's a matter of realizing that life can be renewed every day you get out of bed without baggage. It's tough to get there, but it's better than the dark thoughts. -Lance
