I probably haven't seen enough games of other teams, but I've never seen any team repetitively boo their own players before and after at bats. Like I said, maybe it happens other places and I'm simply not aware because I don't get to see enough games outside Cubs games and probably don't pay nearly as much attention.

Yes, but there was a time when the Cubs sucked year after year and the fans didn't boo their own players. I guess it's because fans have gotten a lot more serious this decade, as was pointed out, but I still think it's lame and classless to boo your own, regardless of how much they suck and despite how badly the fans want a world series ring.

It's gotten to the point where I no longer try to defend Wrigley when I hear other team's fans make fun of it's atmosphere. I've come to realize that I can't defend or try to justify what other people do. I can only speak for myself, and I personally would never boo a Cubs player, even though there have been some who might deserve it on certain days. It's just classless.

last night, the cubs got their asses handed to them by one of the worst teams in baseball, if not the worst. they fell back to 9 games out less than 3 weeks from being in first place. if that isn't a good time to boo your own team, then what is?

the cubs don't get booed for "no good reason." they get booed because they are underperforming at an alarming rate. because they have a huge payroll and are faultering. because they've done this shit for 101 years. because they are, and we are, a laughing stock. i'm glad they're getting booed. they deserve it because they suck at a historical level. fuck the cubs and fuck wiltin' milton bradly. they desrve to be booed and if that makes cubs fans classless, then so be it. i hope they wear it like a badge of honor.

why the fuck would i care if cardinal fans, white sox fans, some dude who rarely gets out of iowa, or the world think i or we are classless? why would that matter to me or to you? when i watch them at hme, i'm doing a hell of a lot more than booing. i'm swearing, i'm screaming, i'm throwing shit. if i'm spending hundreds of dollars to watch these ass strokes in person, and they're stinking up the park, then i'm going to boo them. i'm going to boo the shit out them. and if the drunken ass fucker next to me thinks i'm classless, if everyone here thinks i'm classless, why would i give a flying fuck? they get booed because they blow. i'm glad the cubs fans aren't taking this shit anymore. i'm glad they've become vocal. i'm glad they won't accept less than the best. i'm glad that "wait til next year" and "lovable losers" no longer aplies to us.

so do me a favor: next time you're at a game and the cubs are getting the shit kicked out of them, sit on your hands. smile. say, "go get 'em tomorrow." that's your prerogative. i'm going to boo them til i'm horse. that's my prerogative, neither way is wrong, neither way is right. and if you think i'm classless, then that's fine too. i'm not trying to impress any of you anyway.

Why do the Yankees boo their own players

check out this discussion on a Yankee board concerning Yankee fans booing their own players, and tell me it isn't the EXACT same thing that is happening here.

Everyone thinks their experience is unique. It isn't.

I'd rather not get in a semantics battle, cuz God knows, that's not a good idea, but I said I hadn't "seen" any team repetitively boo their own players. I don't read every teams local paper to find out if their players were booed. I try to get in as many Cubs games as I can and watch other teams on occasion. Just either haven't heard it or haven't noticed.

I've been to quite a few Braves games and have never heard them boo a player for not performing (for not hustling, yes)

These days at Wrigley, you get booed if you go 0-fer.

Let me add, off the top of my head, I remember Sox fans booing Konerko, Jenks, Wise and I think Crede at different points. Again, just off the top of my head.
