It's a stereotype. Same with Philly fans, do you really think they're as bad as the media makes them out to be? I realize they've had some outstanding strikes against them, but it's unfair to label the fan base as generally assholish.

That being said, I still think Ruby is right. There's lots of idiots in Wrigley. However, Butcher is also right in that it's no different than any other ballpark, stadium, field, court, or other venue in the world.

Yeah, there's no way to prove it. Maybe we're just more aware of the dumbasses because we pay more attention than the average fan because we don't identify with the know-nothing. It just bothers me more than most I guess.

Yes -- Sullivan sucks. Bradley has a gigantic chip on his shoulder, though. It doesn't seem like it would be all that hard to get a rise out of the guy. The fact that it took Sullivan five months to do it doesn't impress me.

It's not like Bradley's even close to being the first player to have complaints about the fans attitudes though, just sayin'.

Also, if someone's gonna comment about or make generalizations about the fans, I don't think thye're gonna talk about good ole Geoff up in the nosebleeds cheering his heart out for the Cubs. I'm pretty sure he's gonna talk about the assbags in the RF bleachers that are more concerned about getting their sign on TV, texting their friends, and randomly booing players on their way back from their 10th trip to the pisser. Just my opinion.

I just think you take this shit too seriously, no one is taking a jab at you, it's not about you or me, it's a generalization. Yes, all fanbases have their share of morons. On any given Saturday in the fall, there's 50-70,000 of them in Iowa City, people who don't have a clue about the game and people who don't really even give a shit . . . then there's the other 50% of the people. Same thing with Wrigley and Cub fans. However, I think the vocal douchebag contingent at Wrigley has become far louder than it used to be.

I'm not going to argue that Wrigley isn't filled with morons. It is. And I don't like that aspect of Wrigley sometimes.

But why are there so many articles about it? Are there this many articles in the St. Louis Dispatch about moronic Cardinals fans? I doubt it. Right here in Chicago, why does it take William Ligue running onto the field to beat up Tom Gamboa to take a Chicago sportswriter to say anything about Sox fans? It's almost like Sox fans are praised for not showing up for their team. I've been to U.S. Cellular many times. One out of ten fans there has a tattoo on his/her scalp and are drunk out of their gourds. Why don't we ever hear about those douchebags in the media?

I do agree with your douchebag assessment -- Wrigley has become far more hostile the last few years. I don't like it at all. But I don't like Chicago sportswriters perpetuating stereotypes, either. I know I should try not to take it personally, but I do sometimes.

The only thing I can think of is there's no Sullivan writing for the Cards or Sox. Also, given expectations coming into this year, both teams are playing at a high level. So, that opportunity to boo isn't as available.

I think more than anything, boos don't get drowned out at Wrigley with music, announcements, etc. The idiots aren't as "engaged" by racing hot dogs, or animated characters on score boards, or loud announcements or player chosen "intro music". At Wrigley, you have to sit and watch the game and talk with the person next to you... or boo, make signs, talk on cell phones, and make a general ass of yourself. I think that's a HUGE reason why Cubs fans are stereotyped the way they are, because the stupid fans in our venue can't have thier stupidity neutralized the way other they do at venues.

Where there's smoke, there is usually fire. You don't gain a national reputation for something without there being some fact behind the reputation. It may not represent all the fans, but things like this don't get started from the actions of one or two.

Once again -- I'm not denying that there are a lot of morons at Wrigley Field. What I have a problem with is that it is perceived that Wrigley is somehow unique in that way.

every team has it's fair share of drunken assholes. cub fans are no different than any other fan. to say otherwise is retarded. the fact is that cub fans used to be docile and happy, and now they're ornery and pissed. rightfully so, if you ask me, but no more than any other team. let's try to be realistic, shall we?

Actually, I didn't know exactly what you meant. You said, "people booing for no good reason." You didn't say, "booing their own players."

What's a good reason to boo your own players? Do they just have to suck really badly? Because I've seen Cards fans boo poor performances by their own players. Sox fans, too.
