The Red Sox have Youkilis and LaRoche at first along with Ortiz, why would they be interested in Adrian Gonzalez also? Even if they get him, they have no way of playing everyone. Seems stupid to me.
I got nothin'.

They have been discussing a side deal to rid themselves of the newly acquired LaRoche.

To me, it's easy:
1-A Gonz is one of the top 5 hitters in the NL. And that's at Petco, the absolute worst hitting environment in MLB. Imagine the numbers he'd put up at Fenway, the AL's best "hitter's park."
2-Youkilis can play 3rd base.
3-Their 3rd baseman, Lowell, is injured and very old. Youk would be a huge upgrade.
4-Ortiz is a steroid creation, and will likely suck from here on out.

The Red Sox are absolutely loaded with top prospects, so many that they have guys in Triple A who would be #2 or 3 starters on many teams. Why not spin a few off for a potential superstar?
There's nothing better than to realize that the good things about youth don't end with youth itself. It's a matter of realizing that life can be renewed every day you get out of bed without baggage. It's tough to get there, but it's better than the dark thoughts. -Lance

And Youkilis can play 3B as well, so the Sox want to give Lowell more time off and DH him when possible.

Oritz hasn't played 1B in 4 seasons. he's DH only. Lowell is injured and is only playing about 50% of the games due to his hip. Youkilis is a gold glove 3b and 1b. Gonzalez can play 1B and Laroche can go fuck.

Victor Martinez is almost a Red Sox, which would end the Adrian talks.

Martinez to Red Sox appears to be done with Masterson and Hagadone (along with Brian Price) as the key pieces to Cleveland.
