Well, wouldn't you know? This douche who directed Cloverfield is going to ruin the remake.
QUOTE As you know, Let the Right One In was one of our favorite movies of last year. And you might also remember, the Swedish vampire coming of age film is getting an American remake by Cloverfield director Matt Reeves. It has been a while since we’ve written an update on the project, but Reeves’ recent interview with the Los Angeles Times provides us with a reason. Here are a few things we’ve learned:
* The film is now officially titled Let Me In, which is a more accurate english language translation of John Ajvide Lindqvist’s original novel.
* A second draft of the screenplay is completed.
* The Americanized story is set in the snow covered mountains of a Ronald Regan-era Colorado.
* Reeves has hired casting director Avy Kaufman (The Sixth Sense, Garden State, Lemony Snicket) to find the two 12-year-old leads. Some fans of the original film feared that Reeves might feel pressure to cast older, taking advantage of the Twilight teenage vampire craze, but that is not the case.
* The previously announced January 15th 2010 release date has been pushed back to a “Fall 2010″ TBA date. Might Overture Films believe their genre film might have a chance come awards time?

No reason for a remake -- the original was perfect.

Either American audiences are too dumb to sit through a subtitled film or Hollywood doesn't trust them enough to release it here. Wouldn't it be cheaper just to buy the domestic distribution rights than to have to re-work the script, cast new people, spend all that goes into production and marketing, etc? [REC] was in the same category as this. It was remade and the final product was subpar in every way. What's funny is that these films are being remade within 18 months of the original versions. What an incredible waste of resources and time for shitty versions of the originals.

[REC] was remade? i've had it on a waiting list in my netflix qeue forever and now they say it's finally available july 14th. maybe i should make sure it's the original they'll send me? and i agree about the original let the right one in being great. they'll turn it into a pg13 vamp flick to jump on the twilight bandwagon for americans, i'm sure. lame.

Yep, and then I'll have to hear my stepsister (the one I didn't fuck) about how this shitty ass remake is awesome because she refuses to watch a subtitled movie. Fuck.

I thought it was the most overhyped monster movie ever. Wasn't terrible, but nothing special either, aside from the monster which was pretty cool. Too long of a wait though before we got a good look at it. I hated every single character in that movie, and I wanted them all to die.

There is a difference between overhyped, and having a clever marketing campaign. Godzilla was overhyped. King Kong was overhyped. Even Blair Witch was overhyped. Cloverfield simply had a great advance trailer.
I'd also say I'm completely baffled by your hatred of the characters. Why did you hate the insanely hot chick who got impaled? Why did you hate the also hot chick who eventually exploded? Why did you hate the cameraman (I thought he was pretty funny)?
Rob was somewhat annoying, his brother too, and the chick who ended up making it out was REALLY annoying, but the others were fine, in my book.

I just didn't identify with any of them and found them all pretentious among other things. I've only watched it once and was nauseated for most of the film, and felt that most of what went on was pointless. Maybe I need to watch it again, but it just didn't do much for me the first time. The monster and those little creepy things were pretty cool though, but it felt like 2 movies going on, one young adult home movie and one monster movie.

I didn't know you guys had this section. Let the Right One in was very very good. I just loved the relationship between the two main characters.
For those interested in other good foreign films...I have two in mind that I found really good.
C.R.A.Z.Y. and Tell No One were two very fine movies. Check them out...

Tell No One was excellent, but I can't recommend C.R.A.Z.Y. It just doesn't have wide appeal.

I thought I was the only guy who saw "Tell No One". I liked it quite a bit. But again, it broke my "I prefer the movie to have no exposed penises" rule.
