Freddy Sanchez
#1
<!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->According to the Beaver County Times, the Pirates could try to move Freddy Sanchez at the winter meetings. Sanchez had a disappointing 2008 season and we've seen his numbers drop swiftly since 2006, but the Pirates will hope that potential suitors focus on his career line of .300/.336/.417. The 30-year-old will surely generate a few rumors.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

If we can't add someone like Roberts or a LH corner OFer, I wouldn't mind seeing this option explored.

He had a really bad shoulder problem last year. He really struggled to turn the double play because he had zero arm strength, and it affected his hitting. I would much prefer Fontenot getting any ab's that Sanchez would get on this team.

I'd much rather have a former batting champ getting ABs, but that's just me.

He hit .271/.291/.371 last year and was hideous in the field besides. Until I see something that indicates that he has regained the strength in his shoulder I would rather have Gerald Perry another former batting title winner getting those ab's.

Wade Boggs is a former batting champ? Would you like him? Perhaps Larry Walker?
If Angelo had picked McClellin, I would have been expecting to hear by training camp that kid has stage 4 cancer, is actually 5'2" 142 lbs, is a chick who played in a 7 - 0 defensive scheme who only rotated in on downs which were 3 and 34 yds + so is not expecting to play a down in the NFL until the sex change is complete and she puts on another 100 lbs. + but this is Emery's first pick so he'll get a pass with a bit of questioning. - 1060Ivy

No, they don't play 2B.

He seemed healthy enough offensively in the second half. He was terrible in the first half and came back and hit .346 in the second with an OPS of .862. I'd definitely be interested in trading for him.

BTW, the overvaluing of Mike Fontenot around here has become rather laughable.

I like him, I think he's fine, I've said from the beginning that he's a good hitter. I'd rather see us get a SS and have him and Theriot platoon at 2B and DeRosa play RF. However, there's not a single scenario I can think of where I'd like to see him be an everyday player or really see much more PT than he got last year. He's above average with the bat and below average with the glove, he's a platoon/bench player, nothing more, nothing less.

I think if Fontenot became an every day player, his numbers would drop. A lot.

Precisely . . . aside from those E totals, they'd skyrocket.
