Was this the most dramatic win so far this season?<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Eh, it's the worst win of the year. This is exactly how I felt after that SF game last year I described. I was happy when Reed hit a single to win it like Alf just did, but much more pissed off at Marmol than excited about the win, like I am with Gregg right now.

I see Alf was celebrating the single right away and Scales would've been out by 5 feet at the plate with a good throw.

Definitely, Clapp. Fucking Gregg...

Lou's defending Gregg, saying how it's been a bit since he's been out there, and it wasn't a save situation so that can make a difference with the closer and I agree with that part. He thinks Gregg will be a lot better tomorrow.

Yeah, and he had been really good for a while before today. Some days guys just don't have it.
The thing you need to remember is that all Cardinals fans and all White Sox fans are very bad people. It's a fact that has been scientifically proven beyond a shadow of a doubt. Being a Cubs fan is the only path to rightousness and piousness. Cardinal and White Sox fans exist to be the dark, diabolical forces that oppose us. They are the yin to our yang, the Joker to our Batman, the demon to our angel, the insurgence to our freedom, the oil to our water, the club to our baby seal. Their happiness occurs only in direct conflict with everything that is pure and good in this world.

Yeah, he really had. Had 6 straight scoreless innings. He'll be solid overall, has been for pretty much his entire career. He'll toss in a shithouse performance here and there but will get the job done usually.

But... I've been wanting Marmol to be the closer all along. Nothing pisses me off more than blowing the game in the 9th. If we had lost this, it would bother me all year. If we had blown it in the 8th, I'd forget about it in 2 days. When you get to the 9th inning with the lead, the game should be over. Put your best relief pitcher there. It's sure worked well for the Red Sox and Phillies the last two years. I'm fine with how it is now, but would prefer we had Marmol in the 9th. If Heilman can start getting the ball over the fucking plate, I'd feel quite comfortable with him, Gregg, and Guzman in the 7th-8th.

I know a lot of people seem to think that Wells isn't really that good, but I was impressed with what I saw from him today. Milwaukee and Houston both have pretty decent line-ups, and he has not allowed a run yet. He was working in the low 90's with a ton of movement on a two seamer, did not get rattled at all with runners on base, and really appeared to be a pitcher. It is odd to see Cub's righthanded farmhands come up and not work in the upper 90's, but this guy really seems like a pitcher to me. He was even changing sppeds on his fastball with regularity.

Guzman is pitching great right now as well, if he can demonstrate any durability at all I feel that he can really step into Marmol's spot.

If Guzman keeps pitching how he has, Gregg becomes expendable, which would be nice.

Well we're not going to get rid of Gregg, nor should we.
