I'm having no fun this year

we really do need to graph the collective mood of the board on a day to day basis so we can see how the roller coaster ride is the same year after year.

[Destined]

This team has no heart. No one is busting their ass out there. Johnson, Theriot, DeRo and Soto were the hard workers last year, the grinders. This year no one fits into that mold. DLee is supposed to be the team leader, but he's the type of lead by example guy, and his example sucks right now. Bradley's health isn't the only problem with him, his childish/whiny persona at plate is irritating. Fukudome is practically playing his spring training, and he's kicking everyone's ass, that's pathetic.

I don't mean to beat a dead horse, but DeRosa not being here is about way more than his production. We thrived on his intangibles and his diversity, two things that this team needs badly. He was one of the biggest part of the "team" in every sense of the word. This "team" looks like 25 guys who just met, when they get on the field. No chemistry, no passion. Right now the way I see it, it's going to be a long time before this team will gel, if at all.

And the stuff you're saying Destined... Reed's gotten 30 at bats, 5 of those were today, and do you remember him robbing Prince of a grand slam on the play of the year/month so far? Soto hasn't gotten it going yet at the plate so it's hard for him to seem like much of a "hard worker" yet, but hasn't he been fine behind the plate? Seems fine to me. Theriot was leading the league in hitting as of a couple days ago. Those guys all care and are all playing hard.

Lots of guys last year said how Lee was a key locker room guy, not just a lead by example guy. Soto in particular was very vocal about that a few times last year, and remember Lee's the guy that talked Bradley into coming to Chicago.

When Bradley starts hitting like he's going to, I really don't care how he acts. I just want him healthy and obviously thats a serious issue, but he's going to hit. That's the least of my worries, and holy shit will the lineup look a lot better when he does.

Fukudome would look like the best hitter in most lineups right now, he's just tearing it up. He's a good hitter that's finally relaxed and playing like he should be and more.

We went 0-6 in the playoffs with DeRosa, and he played as big of a part in that record as anybody. Great guy, versatility, all that, but I doubt our record would be any different at all with him right now. Shit, he's hitting .195.

I don't think they want it enough. Maybe they should get into some fights or have Lou yell at an ump to light a fire under them.

Or they're 9-8 because of injuries and bad play.

Did people on this site expect them to go like 150-12 or something?

I feel the same way about this site. Whenever the Cubs lose more than 2 games in a row, it's fucking suicidal in here. It's god damn April, we've had a bunch of nagging little injuries and we're still over .500. It sucks when the Cubs play bad and it depresses me, but to read most of your posts and you'd think it was September and we were 25 games back.

It's not about heart, it's not about DeRosa, it's not about Wood. It's a rough patch that's magnified by it being early in the season, end of story. For people that have presumably watched baseball alot in their lives, some of you don't seem to have the perspective of a baseball season when you are basing your beliefs on one week in the first month.

The only thing I am worried about is the fact that the Cardinals might be a lot better than I thought. I was stupid enough to think that having Joe Thurston in the everyday lineup would be a bad thing.

There are exactly 7 teams in baseball right now that have less losses than us. The Cards being one of them obviously. I am not going to worry about the Cards yet though, they were playing like this last year and fell apart the last 6 weeks. If the Cubs play the summer the way they are capable of this division will still be won by 5 or more games by us. The Reds and Pittsburgh are not going to keep playing how they are playing. I really am not worried about this team at all right now. We are playing mediocre baseball right now. However, we are quite possibly going to be without our 3-4-5 hitters tonight AND our best reliever. Not to mention the fact that Soto and Fontenot are both hitting less than their weight and Soriano hasn't had a hit with runners in scoring position. To be 9-8 is actually pretty impressive. Relax everyone, this team will be just fine!


Lastly....stop fucking talking about Derosa, he is gone, it is done, we can't get him back...let it fucking go!!!

oh, thirty years? well that changes everything. for me, 30 years is a lifetime. and the cubs bring this misery on us, we just accept that misery. if the cubs won, the misery would go away.

I'm finding it really difficult to see a silver lining for this season so far. I know I'm not alone in not seeing much to look forward to in the coming weeks as far as baseball is concerned.
