Cubs vs. Cardinals 4/16/09
Yeah, that squandered bases loaded opportunity was the turning point of this game. I'd really like it if we were swinging the bats better in those situations. Walks are nice, but still no substitute for a hit or extra base knock. Oh, well. I'm done for today.

Yeah, that was supposed to be a strength.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Um, no. That's what our weakness was supposed to be, and it is.

That was going to be my second guess.

Cotts would be my #1.

<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Yeah that made me laugh too. Before the season started, I expected them to be about 3-5 at this point.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
They'll be 5-7 after this series if they keep playing like this.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Super. It's a good thing the season is 6 months long, about half of our good hitters haven't even started hitting like they're capable of or haven't been in the lineup much, the starting pitchers aren't going much yet so the bullpen's not being used quite how Lou would like it to be, and he's still trying to figure out the bullpen on top of that. This team will look a lot different in a month. I expected a rough April with this team, not a single bit worried.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
If the Cardinals weren't playing so well, I wouldn't be as concerned. They were really the only team I was concerned about heading into the season.

Anyway, I hope you're right.

We'll be fine long term, but it still sucks to lose, its normal for fans to be frustrated while losing a game to your rivals.

I feel the same way. The worst part about this is putting up with the Cardinal fans gloating for 24 hours.

I know I'm late in asking this, but who the fuck is Brian Barden and why the fuck is he hitting home runs in the major leagues?

I'm so fucking sick of the Cardinals turning losers into fucking gold. By my count, they have 6 such players (I didn't include Barden, I understand that hitting a home run off of Angel Guzman doesn't make him an all-star... yet).

Well, as long as we continue to give up dingers and extra base hits to them, it doesn't matter. Our team has been playing really flat since we came home.

Light a cross on fire on the mound. That'll get the crowd fired up.

You know who I blame? The Jews... and Catholics.
Some men are born mediocre, some men achieve mediocrity, and some men have mediocrity thrust upon them.

I think people generally felt it would be a strength for us a few months ago. Then, we thought Samardzija, Marshall, and Guadin would pitch out of the bullpen as well as they did last year. Unfortunately, this bullpen is a lot different from what I envisioned in November.

Pujols needs to get one in his earhole for that shit right there.

He should get one just cause.

I blame Aaron Miles for that little extravaganza.

I really hate that Pujols makes a stupid decision going first to third on a groundball putout and benefits from it.

Pujols doesn't deserve one in the earhole (edit: for that play), this game isn't over yet. It wasn't anyone on the Cubs fault, it was just a heads up play by Pujols to get to third with 1 out.
The thing you need to remember is that all Cardinals fans and all White Sox fans are very bad people. It's a fact that has been scientifically proven beyond a shadow of a doubt. Being a Cubs fan is the only path to rightousness and piousness. Cardinal and White Sox fans exist to be the dark, diabolical forces that oppose us. They are the yin to our yang, the Joker to our Batman, the demon to our angel, the insurgence to our freedom, the oil to our water, the club to our baby seal. Their happiness occurs only in direct conflict with everything that is pure and good in this world.

He deserved one in his earhole before that play occurred. It was just confirmed after that happened.
