Guzman was supposed to be unavailable and you have to keep a pitcher in case it goes to extras. All Lou's fault.

I didn't watch the game (I was following it on gamecast) but it does seem like Lou is mismanaging this team. I don't mind losing the occasional gut-wrencher, but when tactical errors are responsible, it's much more frustrating.

Yeah, that sucks for Harden. You only get 20-25 starts out of him, and when he pitches like this you NEED to get him that W.

That's exactly it. Harden was awesome. He hit 96 mph and was on his game. What a complete waste.
I got nothin'.

I gotta agree there. The loss doesn't bother me so much. I mean this is only game 4 of the season. It is just the decisions that were made by Lou and Theriot just killed us. I don't like losing that way.

I will say this: does Kevin Gregg give anyone a warm fuzzy feeling?

We have never had a closer that gave me those feelings.

How many closers do? I can count them on 1 hand . . . 1 ninja turtle hand.

No, which makes it worse that we've lost 2 of the 3 QS we've had.

BTW, this AFV montage of fat people falling in slow motion on WGN is almost making up for that loss.

Wood was 34 for 40 in save opportunities in 08. I didn't think that was too bad. Everyone should give Gregg the benefit of the doubt since it's early, but you still have to wonder about his ability to strike out batters. In 7 more appearances last season (2 more innings), he had 26 less strikeouts than Wood. I like it when closers throw strikes or at least have a mix of overpowering stuff and movement to keep batters guessing. I haven't seen it yet from Gregg.

The AFV footage of people fainting at weddings is just as funny.
Yeah, I guess most closers are dicey. Sucks that the Phils got Lidge for freaking Michael Bourne.

I think Theriot's dumbness has been overshadowed the last few years because he had the dumbfuckingest player in baseball backing him up in Cedeno. But while Theriot obviously has skills (though not as a defensive shortstop), he's baseball dumb.
This is not some silly theory that's unsupported and deserves being mocked by photos of Xena.
