Just decided to post this for anyone interested in reading it. I don't think he ever sees a Major League mound again, but who knows?

I still hate Dusty Baker for ruining the guy. I do not think he ever pitches in the majors again either, but every part of me really wants him to and wants him to succeed. The way he was treated in Chicago was complete bullshit (I am not innocent either, I made comments) and I seriously hope he does pitch again at a high level.

Out of curiosity, do you think he would healthy today if Baker wasn't our manager at the time?

No one can say for sure, but I definitely think that Dusty throwing him out there for 120 pitches almost every time he pitched had a lot to do with it.

I've come to the conclusion that Prior's a giant dick. I hope he never pitches again, just like that assfuck Rich Hill.

Combined with the fact he has a muffin 10 times the size of Baron's, you get a recipe for disaster.

Agreed. Regardless of whose fault it was, he's always been an arrogant asshole. Even when things were going well he was a dick during interviews.

I agree that he has always been an arrogant asshole, but he was our arrogant asshole. He had the chance to be the greatest Cub pitcher of all time and any one who does not think this paragraph from the posted article is the reason he was wasted are simply kidding themselves.
<!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->You’d hope so, though the universal consensus is that Cubs manager Dusty Baker abused Prior at the end of the 2003 season simply because he knew no better. In Prior’s last nine games, including three in the playoffs, he logged the following pitch counts: 131, 129, 109, 124, 131, 133, 132, 115, 119. House believes the overuse by Baker doomed Prior. Eight pitchers this decade have thrown 109 or more pitches in nine straight games, and half of them needed reconstructive arm surgery. The only other pitchers this decade to throw at least four 130-plus-pitch games in a season, let alone in two months, are Livan Hernandez and Randy Johnso<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->
We were supposed to suck in 03, and if we had there is a chance that Wood and Prior would still be starting pitchers.

If Prior were still healthy and on the team, he'd easily be my favorite Cub. People who call him a pussy forget how quickly he came back from injuries in 2003 and 2004. The guy was abused and simply never recovered. I don't care what his attitude is/was like. When healthy, they guy is a first class talent. If he turns his career around, well then good for him.

Pitcher abuse is as real as Chris Brown punching Rihanna. I know that sounds like a sarcastic joke, but I'm serious. Pitcher abuse is real.

I can buy that Prior was abused in 2003, he threw too many pitches, no doubt. I can't buy however that it caused over 5 years of problems and counting, no way no how, he is definitely a pussy. I've been saying for over 2 years, he will never pitch again, and I still don't think he will.
He is also a huge asshole, of course I loved him in 03, we all did, he was our asshole, but he isn't anymore, so fuck him.

I'm tired of defending Prior on here, but I think some of you just don't get it...

Agreed. Hell, I have his jersey and named my dog after him. After he would pitch, I could not wait for his next start. The whole thing broke my heart.

I'm not saying the Cubs didn't grossly mishandle the situation, they hid everything from the public, missed a shoulder injury in 05 and Dusty obviously abused him. But to me their comes a point eventually where some of the blame has to fall on his body and his mental status. 2003 was 6 years ago. He could have had surgery on every muscle and ligament in his arm and had time to heal 3 times over.
We don't even know why he isn't pitching these days. The Padres say there is nothing structurally wrong just like the Cubs did for so long. There is always a reason why he can't pitch. He is always doing bullpen sessions and towel drills and workouts, he has been "a few months away" for years. Its just never gonna happen. I think he would have had major health issues even had he never met Dusty.
I could be wrong, obviously we will never know. With how much stuff the Cubs hid, I don't think almost anyone knows what really happened. But I think portraying Prior as the poor little abused blameless pitcher is just as naive as calling him a giant pussy.
