Carlos Zambrano will be the Cubs' Opening Day starter on April 6 in Houston, Lou Piniella announced today.
Ryan Dempster will pitch the second game and Ted Lilly will pitch the third, which means Lilly also will pitch the home opener on April 13 against Colorado.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->
I assume this means Harden goes in the 4th game, and Marshall gets skipped.

I think Lou already said so earlier in the week.

Yep.

The thing you need to remember is that all Cardinals fans and all White Sox fans are very bad people. It's a fact that has been scientifically proven beyond a shadow of a doubt. Being a Cubs fan is the only path to rightousness and piousness. Cardinal and White Sox fans exist to be the dark, diabolical forces that oppose us. They are the yin to our yang, the Joker to our Batman, the demon to our angel, the insurgence to our freedom, the oil to our water, the club to our baby seal. Their happiness occurs only in direct conflict with everything that is pure and good in this world.

I think we'll be 2-4 after the first week, and everybody's going to be freaking out.

If it was at home, I wouldn't want Z starting. On the road, I'm OK with it.

Zambrano has not done well as the opening day starter. I don't think it matters too much, but I would go with Dempster. I think it is very important in the playoffs and Zambrano should have started game 1 last year.
I like you guys a lot.

I have a feeling it's not going to be a very good year for Z this season. His ERA seems to be trending up every season and I wouldn't be surprised to see it go above 4 this year. I hope I'm wrong.

I disagree. His era was in the low 3.00s and even well below it until late August/September. When he started having injury issues, he started battling himself and his season got away from him. If he's healthy for a full year, I expect him to be solid.

Regardless of his ERA(which I'm not very concerned about) he's still going to win 15 games and make 30+ starts, that's still damn good.

He's made 30+ starts 7 years in a row though. He's a horse. I mean any pitcher can get hurt, but I'm not worried about Z more than your usual pitcher.

Why? An ERA closer to 3 than 4 would help him get more wins, correct?
As far as injury concerns, last season was his lowest innings pitched total since he became a full-time starter, and I'm just a bit concerned about the nagging injuries, and/or his big workload catching up with him at some point.

I'm saying I don't think his ERA will be bad.
And like I said he's a horse, he can handle these innings better than most can, just like CC.
