Cubs Interested In Bobby Crosby
#46
His eye kinda sucked down the stretch. He was taking strikes on the inside corner and flailing away at pitches way out of the zone, down and away.

But yeah...a .415 SLG might be a little generous. I'll knock it down to .405 because I want all of the numbers to end in 5.

I think the Cubs messed with his approach a bit once he started slumping. They wanted him being a little more aggressive rather than taking hittable strikes, then all of a sudden he started swinging at a lot of first pitches. He really looked like the guy we first got today, just in his comfort level at the plate.

How do the Chinese pitchers compare to ML pitching? Are they AAAA? AAA? AA? Any idea? Because I expect Fuk would be pretty comfortable against AAA or lower pitching.

All I'm saying is he was seeing the ball well and looked good up there, I don't know how you can complain about it. He was being more aggressive and expanding the zone as the year went along last year, and today he appeared to be taking some of those pitches he wasn't in the 2nd half. That's all.

OK, here's one for you, Butch et al:
Fuk has $36 Mil left on his contract.
Pierre has $28M.
They're the same age, both born in 1977.

No jokes about Great White sharks comping on their collective penii:
Would you trade Fuk, straight up, for Pierre?

I assume you're just doing it for some talk, but it has no chance of happening in real life.

Yeah, I just wanted to get your feelings on it. The trading of one bad contract for another is actually done quite often.

I actually wouldn't do it, simply because of unbridled optimism...that is, Fuk could completely stun us, and turn it around. It's at least possible.
Whereas, with Pierre, you know exactly what you're getting, which isn't much.
To me, that blind hope is worth the extra $8 mil.

I think Fuk got confused at the various strike zones over the year and started to expand his zone.

Here's my prediction for Fuk:

.275/.375/.380 5 HR, 65 RBI

I'm thinking that he'll be a bit more consistent, lose some power, and be adequate in CF, but still not be even close to worth the money. Anyway, if utilized properly and not brought in to face many LHers, I think we'll pleased. I'm still holding onto my Fuk shirts, just in case, but if he slumps early, he's dead to me. I also think that he'll be traded at the deadline if he ends up lost on the bench, and we'll end up eating a ton of salary.

I know it was against a crappy China team, but just his plate approach and comfort at the plate looked good. I believe 2 of those walks were against lefties and he must've seen 18-20 pitches in those at bats.
That's encouraging, I guess. But he looked absolutely lost against ML pitching in the second half last year. Once the book was out on his weaknesses, he got abused.

That says it all, to me. Numerous folks have said that playing in the majors "is all about adjustments." On a 1-10 scale, how well would you say Fuk adjusted last season?

That's why my projections would be different than Butch's. I foresee very little power, but perhaps a higher OBP because of his good eye.

.245/.350/.380 ?

And like Butch said, if he's putting up those numbers, Lou will bench him.
I hope Fuk puts up a better line. Maybe he will. But it could also be worse.
.217/.314/.326 was his line in the 2nd half, last year. Gruesome.

Dude, you completely laugh off and ridicule my .270/.370/.400 prediction then just adjust the OBP and SLG in yours down by a measly 20 pts. each? You crack me up.

Well, I was trying to be generous because a. I can't believe Fuk can be as bad as he was late last season, and b. I have an inherent Cub-bias, and I want them to do well so badly, that I mentally try to will them to better performances.

That said, I truly have no idea how Fuk will do this year. Like Clapp is with Soriano, my already bad vibes toward Fuk turned into all-out hatred during last year's playoffs. So that definitely has colored my perception of him, I'm sorry to say.

(btw, compared to your projections, I did lower his OPS 40 points, and his batting avg from a respectable .270 to a bench-worthy .245, so it's not like we had identical projections. Needless to say, I hope and pray that you're right, and I'm wrong.)

I'm sure that if Fuk could slug 40+ HR and maintain his OBP from last season, he'd be KB's favorite Cub.
