Milton Bradley and Cubs agree to deal?
<!--quoteo(post=21253:date=Mar 2 2009, 01:28 PM:name=Clapp)-->QUOTE (Clapp @ Mar 2 2009, 01:28 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><!--quotec--><!--quoteo(post=21252:date=Mar 2 2009, 12:26 PM:name=KBwsb)--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (KBwsb @ Mar 2 2009, 12:26 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><!--quotec--><!--quoteo(post=21250:date=Mar 2 2009, 01:23 PM:name=Clapp)--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Clapp @ Mar 2 2009, 01:23 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><!--quotec--><!--quoteo(post=21245:date=Mar 2 2009, 12:00 PM:name=veryzer)--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (veryzer @ Mar 2 2009, 12:00 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><!--quotec--><!--quoteo(post=21243:date=Mar 2 2009, 12:52 PM:name=KBwsb)--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (KBwsb @ Mar 2 2009, 12:52 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><!--quotec-->Doesn't he say that about pretty much everybody?
BTW, what "job" is his to lose...the 25th man job?

I really hope he makes the team, but if he does, that means we'll have no typical "utility" guy, no actual back-up for Theriot at SS, etc., so it's a bit of a risk. I guess we could just use Miles at SS...not exactly a move that a WS contender should probably do, but it'll work in a pinch.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

hoffpauir is going to be the back up firstbaseman and corner outfielder. it's pretty much a done deal. unless hoffpauir completely tanks (and so far thats not remotely close to the case) he's on the team. put him on your roster buddy, because he's on the team.

gathright is a defensive replacement, a pinch runner, and a spot starter. nothing more, nothing less.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Bingo.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Love you guys, but Milton Bradley's backup is not, nor ever <i>has</i> been a "spot" starter. He's pratically a platoon partner.

In an ideal world, Hoffpauir will get some of that playing time, ( IF he even makes the team.)
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
He's not Milton Bradley's backup!
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
He's not from this planet.

Dude, you guys are trying to pretend that Gathright is going to be the first
full-time pinch-runner since Herb Washington on the '74 A's,
and I'm calling you on it.
Accept reality...he's going to get LOTS of playing time. Mostly in Right Field.

hendry had nothing to do with patterson and neifi batting 1-2. nothing whatsoever. that was 100% dusty.

if bradley gets hurt, hoff will get a bulk of those starts. gathright may spot start, but hoffpauir is going to be the primary back up. why? because lou loves that kid. why? because he's a hitting machine. if bradley and/or soriano get hurt, hoffpauir is gonna see a lot of playing time.

I hope you're right about Hoffpauir. I hope.
However, I was stunned that he didn't make the post-season roster last year, so the notion that "Lou <i>loves</i> him," is far-fetched.

As for Hendry having 0% to do with Dusty's hiring, lack of firing, or of Jim's signing the team's players...is that really even an argument?

Anyway, I hope Hoff makes the team, and I hope that when (not if) Bradley goes down, that Lou doesn't replace him too often with Gathright. Or worse, that he doesn't replace him with Fuk, and put Gathright in CF, thus creating nirvana for the opposing pitcher.

This is not the article that I was referring to in my post to Butch, but it shows about the same thing. Butch and Kabes, I think you guys are having a tough time understanding how incredibly productive Bradley was last year even if it was for only 126 games, if he had played 150 games he would have been more valuable than Pujols. While looking for the article I saw comments like best hitter available, 515 straight ab's with mvp type performance, and best hitter in the American League. Bradley is a difference maker from both sides of the plate, and he is going to be locked into the middle of our lineup for the next three years. If he plays 120 games a year, he is a great value, if he plays 100 games a year he is even money @$10 million a year.

wow. hendry hired dusty but it's not his job to tell dusty who to play and where. that was 100% dusty. jim had nothing to do with it. you're wrong. admit it.

and it's not far fetched to think lou loves hoffpauir. read the chicago papers, it's obvious.

Heck, savant, I'm <i>excited</i> to have Bradley on the team. He's been one of my favorite players for years. Sorry if I haven't been clear about that.

The only problem is that he will miss a lot of games. Thus, his backup is going to get a LOT more playing time than a typical OF backup, so I was thinking that it might be a good idea to have a pretty good player for those 35-60 games that Bradley will likely miss.

But don't think I hate Bradley. I love that fucker.

I'm thinking Lou isn't going to have a whole lot of patience with Hoff defensively in RF - a couple misplays out there and he'll find his way back to the bench pretty quickly.

I'll be shocked if he plays more than 10 innings in right field the whole year.
The thing you need to remember is that all Cardinals fans and all White Sox fans are very bad people. It's a fact that has been scientifically proven beyond a shadow of a doubt. Being a Cubs fan is the only path to rightousness and piousness. Cardinal and White Sox fans exist to be the dark, diabolical forces that oppose us. They are the yin to our yang, the Joker to our Batman, the demon to our angel, the insurgence to our freedom, the oil to our water, the club to our baby seal. Their happiness occurs only in direct conflict with everything that is pure and good in this world.

I think that if Micah has made the commitment this offseason to become an adequate outfielder he will make the team and get a substantial amount of playing time in the outfield. If he is not at least adequate in the outfield he is probably going to have a tough time making this team as only a backup firstbaseman/pinch hitter.

I'd say that's a fair bet, seeing as how he hasn't even played that many innings there his entire career.

Somebody really ought to keep a file on this sort of thing--kind of fun to throw it back.
I'm 100% fine with this. I'm just glad there's an actual plan in place that isn't, "Let's load up on retreads and hope we get lucky." I'm a little tired of that plan.

Oh I keep a file. It's a manila folder called 'Kb's batshit rantings that never come true'. It's about the size of the Manhattan phone book.
