Anyone seen it yet? My wife wants to go see it on Valentine's day but the reviews I've heard so far were less than stellar..

Looks atrocious. How many X-Men/Heroes/Fantastic 4/Mutant Chronicles copycat movies do we need? Also, the director has made some pretty stupid movies already (Wicker Park, Lucky Number Slevin), so that doesn't bode well.

Lucky Number Sleven was legit. Lucy Lui was worthless but the movie was still entertaining.

Yes, the directing was an obvious Guy Richie knock-off, and the set design was fuckin hideous, but it was entertaining. Plus, the acting was C- but I still enjoyed it.

Ok, so I don't know why I like it, but I did.

It's one of those movies that you watch it once and then vow to never watch it again. Overproduced, overcomplicated drivel. Not saying parts of it weren't enjoyable or that it was a complete waste, but the sum of the parts just added up to a whole lot of nothing. It would have been better approached as a neo noir, but instead they went for the extended music video treatment.

But yeah, Liu was hot as always, even though she has the personality of gnat.

It's one of those movies that you watch it once and then vow to never watch it again. Overproduced, overcomplicated drivel. Not saying parts of it weren't enjoyable or that it was a complete waste, but the sum of the parts just added up to a whole lot of nothing. It would have been better approached as a neo noir, but instead they went for the extended music video treatment.

But yeah, Liu was hot as always, even though she has the personality of gnat.

I agree that it could have benefited from neo-noir approach. It was like watching ADD kids play in the ball room at McDonalds after drinking a bunch of Coke. I've never heard "extended music video treatment"...so I'm prolly gonna steal that. [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif[/img]

The cast was great. It's a shame that it fell so short or it's aim. I enjoyed the movie, but it could have been done a lot better.

As an aside, do you think that the neo-noir approach is beginning to become cliched? I mean, some of these films are starting to become as derivative as Westerns.

It's definitely about run its course. Considering that between the 30s and 50s, there were thousands of noir films produced, and cheaply at that, Hollywood could really run with remakes or just continue to steal ideas for another decade without anyone noticing. Personally though, I like it when noir is combined with sci-fi or horror, not necessarily comic book themes or straight crime drama as has been popular recently, so there still might be some interesting movies in the pipeline.
