QUOTE Yankees agreed to terms with LHP Andy Pettitte on a one-year, $5.5 million contract.
Pettitte will likely make $12 million if he stays healthy, so it's a fair deal. There's a very realistic chance that Phil Hughes, who is knocked out of the rotation by the signing, outpitches Pettitte this season. However, Hughes will still get his chances and the Yankees are now far less likely to have to rely on Ian Kennedy, Kei Igawa or someone else. The bigger loser is Alfredo Aceves. He may yet make the team as a middle reliever, but he's less likely now to get a chance to make 15 starts.

And he had rejected their 10 million arb offer. Like it says if he can stay healthy he'll make more than that though.

MLBTR: Cubs Close to Acquiring Heilman
QUOTE According to ESPN Radio's Bruce Levine, the Cubs are close to acquiring pitcher Aaron Heilman from the Mariners. The Ms want shortstop Ronny Cedeno and pitching in return. Heilman was dealt to Seattle in the J.J. Putz trade earlier this winter. Earlier this month, Ken Rosenthal mentioned that the Mariners were likely willing to trade Heilman, "who they did not consider a key component of the Putz trade."
Also (briefly) mentioned was three teams interested in Bitch Hill.

I'm surprised Hendry didn't sign him and then deal him to the Rangers for a couple of 28-year-old AA arms.

Dude, how can you rip a quality GM?
There's nothing better than to realize that the good things about youth don't end with youth itself. It's a matter of realizing that life can be renewed every day you get out of bed without baggage. It's tough to get there, but it's better than the dark thoughts. -Lance

QUOTE Heyman makes one clarification about Milton Bradley's deal after viewing the contract. It's a two year $20MM deal with an option for a third year that kicks in if Bradley spends fewer than 75 days on the DL this year.

75 days? I wish it was more like 30 or 40. 75 days means he could still play less than 100 games and the option kicks in. Weak sauce.

Yeah...the most amount of days I would have been happy with would have been 60 non-consecutive days. I agree...it is indeed weak sauce.
