Rockies Opening Home Series after Opener
#16
Seems simple and don’t know if I would call it impressive but admired that Counsell had lefty Little start the game after using him the final inning of previous game. The Rockies had 2 lefties in the first 3 spots in their lineup so Counsell didn’t want to expose Brown to top of lefty oriented lineup. Then pulled him and had Brown go on to pitch 4 innings. The pair gave up 1 run, 3 H, 1 BB, and 6 K over 5 innings. The set up required thinking ahead which is smart management, simplistic to better provide “rookies” with a path to a successful outing. Don’t believe that Ross would have considered the option

Good point. I'm ok with using an "opener" and then Brown to piggyback while Steele & Taillon are out. That said, Counsell needs to figure out how to not tax the rest of the pen in doing so. Maybe trust Brown to go 5 instead of 4?
