Another late inning win
Tauchman came through in 9th with a 2 out 2 strike double to score 2 runs to tie the game and a Brewer error leads to him scoring winning run. This team may not be good but seems like most of the NL Central isn’t either

Still the only NL Central team with a positive run differential. What a goofy season.

I put money on the Yankees yesterday. I thought that was a surefire win with Taillon pitching. Of course he pitches 8 innings of 1-hit ball.

Great to get series win against Yanks - specially as Cubs hadn’t beaten Yanks in NY since forever plus a few centuries

Cubs are playing just barely well enough to hold my interest.

A team built on starting pitching and defense can’t give up 6 HRs in a game and expect to win.
Wonder if Bellinger will look better in Yankee pinstripes, or as a Astro, or as a Brave rather than his old Dodger blue come August. Haven’t followed who’s scouting him but expecting that we will see him in playoffs

I totally called that grand slam btw.

Alright. If we can’t even beat the god damned Nationals, let’s burn the entire thing to the ground. Jesus.

Didn’t the Nats sweep the Cubs earlier this season?
Cubs are 1-4 against the Nats this season while the Reds are 4-0

I'm worried this team will be stuck in a cycle of mediocrity for a while. They aren't bad enough to stockpile high draft picks. They're going to keep hitting the reset button at the trade deadline and getting mediocre prospects in return. Selling Stroman and Bellinger (while probably the right move) just means that our best pitcher and best hitter are gone next year. Who will be replacing them? It's looking grim.

And there is no emerging core to speak of. Happ is just above average, Hoerner looks like more of a role player than someone to build around, and Suzuki is probably not going to amount to much. Steele appears to be the only potential difference maker. Swanson is fine. The minors aren't producing much, and our development system seems over hyped and is already possibly falling behind our competitors (again). This is a real pickle.

Yeah. Not in a great place. Also, somehow Steele is already 28 years old?! I’m not sure when or how this gets fixed, but I don’t see a quick path to a competitive Cubs team.
