MLB News & Notes (other than Cubs or Sox)
Wow. This is incredibly sad. Hopefully this can serve as a wake up call of some sort...

Even more disturbing if true.

Ugh I hope that isn't true.

This could be an interesting arm to follow out of Cuba if he is in fact free to sign with any team, including the Cubs.

To make matters worse, if they find that Ventura had alcohol in his system, the Royals can void his contract and his family will get nothing of the $16M+ remaining to be paid to him.

I got nothin'.

I had no idea that otherwise, clubs have to pay off on the contracts of dead players. That seems strange to me.

That's a surprise to me as well. I would assume that they have life insurance for this purpose if it is indeed true.

Cards might be in big trouble for that hacking scandal...

I'll believe the Cards are in trouble after a hole in the earth swallows up the entire organization.

The hack may be worse than initially reported but Cards haven't been punished yet, the crime doesn't have an explicit, set punishment, crime is not well understood by public, and Cards sway with MLB should not be underestimated.

I'll believe it when I see it.

Cardinals penalty is $2 MM and forfeit of top 2 picks for 2017

Believe that the Cards lost their top pick with signing of Fowler so missing a 2nd and competitive balance pick so two 2nd rounders

I wish they would've taken their top pick in 2018 instead, but it's something...

Those fuckers.

Weak stuff. They clearly knew it was coming, so signing Fowler actually worked out great for them. How they still qualify for a competitive balance pick is beyond me.

No, the Cards should not receive extra draft picks for this competitive balance nonsense. Fangraphs basically agrees.

Marlins to be sold for $1.6B?  I can't imagine they're worth that much.

Prior to the 2016 season, Forbes had the Marlins valued at $675M.  So either they were way off, Loria is a salesman or this NY buyer is way overspending.  https://www.forbes.com/pictures/mlm45gdf...861f01734b

I got nothin'.
