Farm System
I would like to see La Stella getting starts at 2b. Coghlan is scary over there.

Yeah, luckily that DP he flubbed didn't come back to haunt us, but still caused Arrieta to inflate his pitch count unnecessarily.

In defense of Coghlan, he's being asked to play a position he hasn't played since his rookie season. That's not easy.

Can LaStella's defense make for loss of Coghlan's bat in the lineup?

LaStella's OPS is 639 for career

Career 95 325 22 81 16 1 1 31 36 41 3 1 .249 .325 .314 .639

Coghlan's OPS at 750 for this season and 745 for career

2015 Regular Season 106 315 37 78 18 1 11 25 39 60 10 2 .248 .334 .416 .750

Career 624 2119 284 570 128 19 41 183 212 406 44 22 .269 .339 .405 .745

It's folly to think that La Stella would replace Coghlan.  He'd replace Herrera, albeit he'd probably get a few more spot starts.

On the other hand, I'd caution against drawing conclusions about La Stella's ability at the plate.  He has 325 career ABs and he posted a .877 career OPS in the minors.

This is not some silly theory that's unsupported and deserves being mocked by photos of Xena.  [Image: ITgoyeg.png]

I'm not saying he replaces Coghlan on the roster. I do think there is nothing wrong with occasionally putting Coghlan in right (or a day off) and putting La Stella at second. I'm not blaming Coghlan at all, he is playing out of position. You can tell he isn't comfortable. It's not a knock against him.

I would hope that some sort of a platoon of Baez/La Stella at 2B, with the latter also spelling KB at 3B from time to time, would at least be experimented with at some point. I like Coghlan, but he seems to be overexposed being in the lineup almost every day. Sadly we won't have full roster flexibility and be able to test some of these scenarios out until September.

I am rooting for Almora because he has game changing defense in center. That could be a huge help for us next season if Almora doesn't struggle out of the gate.

And he's now 2-3.

Quote:Cease threw two shutout innings, allowing a single and two walks while striking out three. His fastball continues to hum, baby, topping out at 100 MPH in his first inning of work, but (as usual) he had difficulty throwing strikes (just 53% strikes) and with pitch-efficiency (22.5 pitches-per-inning).

Just a reminder that Almora, while he seems to have been around forever, just turned 21 in April.

AAA can't be too far away at this point.

Man, we need him to start turning it on.  Would love to have him as our CFer in a year or two.
