This is not some silly theory that's unsupported and deserves being mocked by photos of Xena.  [Image: ITgoyeg.png]

Funny that Law gave Schwarber an honorable mention for best minor league players after continually being unimpressed with him whenever his name was brought up.

Cubs officially announce that they are moving their low-A affiliate to the South Bend Silver Hawks. They cite the new training facilities and player development as the main factors.

South Bend will officially launch new uniforms, logo and name change next week (more than likely to the Cubs). Kinda of a shame really as I like their current logo.

They leave Kane County in the lurch without a team.

The Reds meanwhile officially move to Daytona.

Nothing about the move from KC makes sense. By all accounts the facilities were inferior and the distance from Chicago greater. Are there plans to upgrade the stadium, etc?

Quote:"The No. 1 selling point was the Cubs' faith in our organization and leadership," Silver Hawks owner Andrew Berlin told the South Bend Tribune. "We've had an extraordinary record for player development. It goes beyond the field, into the community."Another selling point was the construction of new and improvement of existing facilities in and around Four Winds Field, Berlin told the South Bend Tribune. A baseball-centric facility being constructed next to the ballpark is a scaled-down version of the training center the Cubs have in Mesa, Ariz.

Locker rooms, weight rooms and offices inside the stadium are being gutted and renovated, and natural grass will be installed to replace the artificial surface.

My guess is that the Cubs wanted the new facilities that were in the process of being upgraded now rather than the promise or possibility of new facilities in the future. Their whole focus about the mass minor league team switching is all about development which is encouraging. Now the decision has to be made on what short season A team they'll go for and the possibility of adding another team in rookie league or short season A. We currently have 2 while teams such as the Yankees have four.

First South Bend. Now Eugene. Uggggh. What's next? Tuscaloosa?

I hate my pretentious sounding username too.

Sounds as if the Emeralds gave the Padres the punt to affiliate with us instead.

New stadium, better facilities, shorter bus rides. Much better fit for us. Like their logo too.

Any chance the Cubs are moving to clubs they may have the ability to purchase in the long term?  I know there are several teams that now own many/most of their minor league ball clubs.

I got nothin'.
