It's definitely not too early to give up on Maples. I loved the pick when it happened. And I loved the willingness they showed to get him to sign and turn down his football scholarship. But, he's been brutal...and when he hasn't been brutal he's been injured. Hard to call 14th rounders big busts, but what was expected from him when drafted, I think it's fair here.

Granted, but I expected him to not be getting shelled at Boise 3+ years after being drafted. Even with his high risk I really thought in the cubs' system, we'd see glimpses of brilliance out of him. We really haven't seen much of anything positive. I wasn't expecting him to blow the doors off and fly through the system or anything, but I did expect much more than we've seen.
