It's definitely not too early to give up on Maples. I loved the pick when it happened. And I loved the willingness they showed to get him to sign and turn down his football scholarship. But, he's been brutal...and when he hasn't been brutal he's been injured. Hard to call 14th rounders big busts, but what was expected from him when drafted, I think it's fair here.
Expected from him?  He was always considered a high reward/high risk pitcher.  The high risk part means you shouldn't be terribly surprised that he didn't pan out.

Granted, but I expected him to not be getting shelled at Boise 3+ years after being drafted. Even with his high risk I really thought in the cubs'  system, we'd see glimpses of brilliance out of him. We really haven't seen much of anything positive. I wasn't expecting him to blow the doors off and fly through the system or anything, but I did expect much more than we've seen.

Don't know why Rivero wasn't added.

Was curious about that as well. My guess-delaying a 40 man decision a little longer. I don't think he needs to be rule 5 protected next season (could be wrong on that). Saying that, I would have loved to see him up.

A little bit surprised that Rivero didn't get the call. He's 27 soon, correct?

If he isn't already.  Odd.

Probably because he didn't sign and went to college instead?

He's going to end up a stud too.

Late pitching convert and the Cubs already liked him once?  Intriguing.

Check it out as I hilariously fail at Cubs blogging.

As bad as Olt probably will be, just thinking about Valaika out there at 1B gives me diarrhea.
