It's been looking very bad lately.

Who is this Micah Hoffpauir kid?! Lets get him and Samardzija up.

Why hasn't Brad Snyder ever gotten a look as a backup outfielder? I realize he's 28 but it seems like he's always hit in the minors.

This could be interesting. It appears that Boise lost tonight via forfeit.

Apparently Jody Davis pulled the team from the field. Not sure why.

I guess Jody didn't think the field was in playable condition.

Ok, it was due to too much rain, so I guess that's not as sad as I thought.

<!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec--><!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE <!--quotec-->Umpire Matt Heersema thought the Northwest League game should have continued. Hawks manager Jody Davis disagreed, and refused to send his players back on the field. The result was a Boise forfeit and a 9-0 victory for the Everett AquaSox on Saturday night in Everett, Wash.

The beginning of the game was delayed 80 minutes by rainy conditions. The teams played one inning, and Everett took a 2-0 lead before the game was then delayed another 20 minutes.

Davis refused to send his players back on the field after the second delay, and after Heersema waited the mandated five minutes, he called the game a forfeit.

Professional baseball rules declare a 9-0 victory for the winner in the event of a forfeit of a nine-inning game.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd--><!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

If Angelo had picked McClellin, I would have been expecting to hear by training camp that kid has stage 4 cancer, is actually 5'2" 142 lbs, is a chick who played in a 7 - 0 defensive scheme who only rotated in on downs which were 3 and 34 yds + so is not expecting to play a down in the NFL until the sex change is complete and she puts on another 100 lbs. + but this is Emery's first pick so he'll get a pass with a bit of questioning. - 1060Ivy

<!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->Before we get to the minor-league roundup, I came across this from Kevin Goldstein at Baseball Prospectus on Jeff Samardzija:

“I've taken more than my fair share of shots at the Cubs overpaying for Samardzija in 2006, but there's finally some good news on this front. Always in need of a second pitch, he's suddenly added a 88-90 mph cutter to his mix, and according to scouts, it's generating swings and misses. Since moving back to the rotation, Samardzija has a 2.18 ERA in nine starts while limiting Pacific Coast League hitters to a .177 batting average, and there's reason for hope once again _ not far stardom, but at least for a usable big league arm.”

As always, we shall see.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Man there are some arms in Tennessee aren't there? Too bad they don't play in Jackson anymore. That was an easy drive for me to see some up and comers, but with every new box score I read I am more and more impressed with the arms over there.

<!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->Boise Hawks manager Jody Davis was suspended six games and fined an undisclosed amount Sunday, one day after pulling his team off the field and forfeiting a game against the Everett AquaSox.

Northwest League president Bob Richmond handed down the suspension, which took effect before Sunday night's 15-4 loss to the AquaSox.

"I've been in this business a long time -- 28 years with the Northwest League alone -- and I've never ever had that situation before," Richmond told the Idaho-Press Tribune. "He was wrong and that's why we had to take the action we did. It's just a very serious thing that we're not going to put up with. When the umpires say something, you have to do it."

The start of Saturday's game was delayed by rain for 80 minutes. In the bottom of the first inning, Boise left fielder Ryan Cuneo slipped while trying to track down Hawkins Gebbers' RBI double that gave Everett a 2-0 lead.

Davis came out to talk to plate umpire Matt Mullins and argued that the playing conditions were unsafe. He then instructed his team to leave the field, prompting telephone calls between the umpiring crew and Richmond.

When play resumed nearly 30 minutes later, Gebbers returned to his spot on second base and Evan Sharpley moved into the batter's box. The Hawks, however, never left their dugout. Mullins and base umpire Matt Heersema waited five minutes before signaling to the press box that Boise had forfeited.

"Although Jody's actions were in his best interests for the players, we do not believe in, nor condone, the tactics in which were used that led to the forfeiture of the contest," Hawks president and general manager Todd Rahr said.

Davis, a former Major League catcher, is in his first season managing the short-season Hawks. He guided the Class A Advanced Daytona Cubs to the Florida State League championship in 2008 before spending last season as the Cubs' Minor League catching coordinator.

Barring any postponements, Davis is eligible to return to the dugout Aug. 15 when the Hawks host the AquaSox.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->
