Milton Bradley and Cubs agree to deal?

He played in 126 games last season, which is the most since he played in 141 for LA in 2004.
I think that leads to hope that he can be healthy this season and play even more games. And we NEED his OBP, I don't think anyone can complain with .320/.436<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Can he do it for a whole season playing OF in Wrigley as compared to DHing in a very hitter friendly park? I don't know.

I sure hope the fans give him a chance and don't Jaque him out too quickly.

It seems as if the Cubs have been pretty good the last couple seasons being careful with guys who have had injury problems in their careers. Lou makes sure they get their days off, so I'm pretty confident that Bradley should be ok.
And I don't see any reason why the fans would go against Bradley. He's proven that when hes healthy, he can ball. And all indications are he's healthy coming into this season, so he should be able to pick up where he left off last season (.320/.436)
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Yeah...the situation with Jacque coming to the Cubs was much different. The fans looked at what he had done with the Twins and decided that it was a bad signing -- plus they were already tired of Burnitz in RF and Jacque wasn't really an upgrade. Unfortunately for Jacque, the fans already made up their mind about him before he even suited up. Bradley, on the other hand, puts up really good numbers (when he's healthy). I don't think the fans will be out to get him at all. In fact, I'm not really sure why their situation is even being compared.

Because they're both black? That's really the only thing they have in common. And implying that Cubs fans turned against Jacque because he is black is an outrageous statement.

Well, he wouldn't be playing CF obviously when Reed plays. He could when Fuk does, but I don't know, I'd rather just put Fuk in CF. He looked fine out there after getting some playing time. It's tough playing a corner outfield spot all season and then going to CF. Just get him playing there more in Spring Training and he'll be fine. Plus I'd rather save Bradley some running since he's always getting hurt.

Agreed, plenty of Cubs fan favorites/legends have been black. That BS that Dusty was spreading about racism was way overblown. Strap and LaToya got harrassed because they sucked. Cubs fans hate crappy players and love talented ones. End of story.

LaTroy and Jacque not only sucked, but they were both pretty standoffish with the media and with the fans. Not a great combination.

Bradley's not exactly a fan favorite. I don't think it will take much for the fans to get on him.

Yeah, considering how Chicago fans have embraced black athletes (Ernie Banks, Gale Sayers, Walter Payton, Michael Jordan, Andre Dawson, Billy Williams, and on and on...) it's obvious that the Jacque effect was based on a lot more than skin color.

If he acts like a douche, then of course the fans will jump on him. But I don't think the fans will automatically dislike him from day 1 like they did with Jacque.

That's the main reason I'm excited by his signing: he'll be unbelievably entertaining.
It'll have it's circus moments, for sure. Most fans aren't thrilled by that, but I'd love it.

He also brings genuine skill, especially in his ability to get on base.
I just hope that Jim is factoring in the idea that he's gonna have to have a STRONG 4th OFer for the 30-40 games that Bradley misses per season.
And DeRosa is gone.
Anyone looking forward to a Fuk-Reed-Alf OF for 30-40 games this year?

Nothing to do with race in my eyes. I don't believe Cubs fans are racist. I believe they got on Jones and Hawkins for sucking.

If Bradley gets off to a slow start, I can't see fans behavioir any different.

As far as what he can do, I'd temper my expectations to factor in that his numbers last year were inflated due to that park/infield. I think he will be a good add for the team - IF he gets off to a good start and connects with the fans.

If he doesnt - it will be an interesting contract.

The Jones signing was booed at the Cubs Convention before Jacque even took the field. His slow start certainly didn't help, but he was disliked the minute the contract was signed.
