Zambrano
Plot or not, intentional or not, it was still a stupid decision.

Once Z ends up in the AL (preferably not on the South Side), I hope he turns his career around. I'm always going to be a big fan of Z.

Yeah, we should discuss that sometime.

Mission accomplished, I guess. I hope Hendry is happy.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

I'm sure he's thrilled. Because the logical idea is that he wanted to drive down the value of a guy he signed to a 90 million dollar contract, so he could trade him for cents on the dollar. Because that would totally reflect well on his tenure.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

But by putting Zambrano in the bullpen, isn't that exactly what he did?
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

<b>No, that's not exactly what he did. He put him in the bullpen because he thought there were 5 other guys who would do a better job. Did Hendry put Z back into the rotation, because he somehow knew Zambrano would completely fucking melt down in front of the cameras? </b>
If you guys honestly believe this was all a plot so Hendry could get Z to drop his no trade clause, then I don't know what to tell you. If you honestly believe this was a plan by Hendry to devalue a 90 million dollar investment HE made, I don't know what to tell you. If you honestly believe a GM who is fighting to hold onto his job would INTENTIONALLY throw a guy with a contract like Zambrano's under the bus, I don't know what to tell you.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

But seriously, the idea of Zambrano completely melting down as a result of this decision, was at least a possibility, right? Shouldn't Hendry at least have considered it?

I don't think Hendry and/or Lou made this decision to drive Zambrano crazy, or get himj to drop the NTC, or because they don't like him.

I think they did it because they thought it was a good idea, and that's what bothers me. Because it wasn't a good idea, it was dumb, and they should have known better.

Let me be clear about this statement. Although, I'm pretty close to not giving much of a fuck about any of this anymore...

I think the Cubs have wanted to trade Zambrano for a while, but knew he wasn't going anywhere because of the NTC. I'm not saying that fucked with his head in order for him to waive his NTC. Sometimes I disagree with Cubs management and sometimes they make stupid decisions, but they would have to be certifiable to try and make him go insane or make him so unhappy here that he'd waive his NTC.

"Mission accomplished" meaning now he'd be willing to waive his NTC. "I guess"...meaning not exactly the ideal method of getting there. Not "mission accomplished" meaning "our diabolic scheme has worked...HA HA HA!"

Since you are good at bringing things around to a calmer, more rational view of Hendry's actions...what insight can you offer into his tendency to throw expensive players under the media bus when they go nuts and may need to be dealt?
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

I guess if you consider admitting to the human beings on the planet with a functioning brain cell that Bradley and Zambrano might not be the bestest teammates ever "throwing them under the bus", then Hendry is guilty.

I'm sure, had Hendry kept his mouth shut, we'd be deluged with offers for Zambrano right now. Because that's totally the kind of thing that opposing teams only find out about when GM's talk about it in public.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
I guess if that's all you've got...

I mean come on...yeah, these guys are who they are (and as has been talked to death we're NOT just talking about Bradley and Z here) and you can't pretend they're model citizens. But when in each instance, the GM talks to the media and paints the situation in the worst possible light...the message is <i>gee, it's worse than anyone could have imagined from all the press on what an asshole this payer was...it's so bad that the guy that has to go out and sell him can't stop himself from blasting him in the press</i>.

And make no mistake...I really do think it's that Hendry can't help himself. I'm sure in his mind, it's a preemptive strike in defense of his organization but it's still really stupid...it can't possibly do any *good* after after all.

I think we need to have a gif to post that says something like "trying to discredit another person's argument by taking it to a completely unrealistic/illogical extreme is never effective."

Just about everyone is guilty of it on a semi-weekly basis.

"You don't want to get rid of Zambrano? I guess would be better if we just keep him and let him play every position in the field like Bugs Bunny and run the team and eat cake every day!"

"Um, no... I just want to keep Zambrano. I guess you would prefer if it we just dump every player on the team for nothing and call up a bunch of A-ball players."

If we did that, then we'd need to have a gif for every single kind of post that gets made here and then this place would be nothing but gifs and that would spread to the rest of the internet and then the internet would be nothing but a bunch of gifs (and porn).

Also, I never take things to unrealistic extremes.
