So there have been a number of names thrown around from the Cubs, I'm just wondering how likely they are to be traded. It appears that either Hendry is asking more than he should for them, opposing teams don't want to give up anything or there's money impasses. So what are the chances the following people get traded:
Lilly - I think it's nearly 95%, but the longer this goes on, the less likely I think the Cubs are to get a decent return.
Theriot - I'd say there's about a 25% chance. With the Rockies falling apart, that chance is shrinking daily.
Fukudome - 25% - Depends upon how much of his pay the Cubs are willing to eat.
Gorzelanny - 10% - His name has been tossed about a little, generally amongst teams looking for a low cost, end of the rotation guy.
Zambrano - 5% - I can't see anyone trading for him right now. Plus it would be horrible to trade him at his lowest value.
DLee - 0% - He already yanked the carpet from under one trade. Obviously, he's not going anywhere.
I got nothin'.

Not saying Gorzelanny is the savior necessarily but the way he has been throwing I would hope he doesn't get traded. If he can keep this up the rest of the year there is one big cog in the rotation for next season.
I would love to see Fukudome gone but you are right, cubs will have to eat too much money to make it happen.
As for Lilly, don't just do it to do it. Do it for something in return.

As I mentioned in the other thread, the Rockies' beat writer mentioned today in the Denver Post that they would still be interested in Theriot looking ahead towards next year.

No reason to trade Gorzelanny at this point unless some team wows us. Fuk and Z are unmovable, at least unless we paid 90% of their contracts.
I'd say it's 50/50 on both Lilly and Theriot. Theriot might even be dealt in August if something isn't imminent because it's doubtful anyone would block a deal given our position in the standings. Lilly has way more interested parties, but if we are trying to save money, we may not get much in return.

The latest of course is that Derrek Lee wouldn't waive his NTC to go to the Angels who happen to reside in Southern California where he is building a home. You may be thinking that he just didn't want to go to the Angels who are pretty much out of it, but according to Bruce Levine, the Rangers came up with an offer as well and they're very well on their way to the playoffs at the moment. I don't know anything about Lee's personel life, but for the $13M he's making this year, it seems like he could overcome the 2-month inconvenience. Since Lee is still having a crap year and the team is obviously moving on past him for 2011, it'd be nice if he was benched for prolonged period of times to start giving whomever the Cubs think might be next year's first basemen some much needed game experience (Colvin, Soriano, Ramirez, Hoffpauir, etc).
- Ted Lilly seemed like a slam dunk to get moved, but teams seem to be balking at picking up his salary. The Cubs should of course just offer to pay most of it, if it can net them a decent pair of prospects, but Hendry still can't figure out how free agent compensation works, so I'm doubtful he'll figure out the idea of sunk costs. The Phillies are of course out now as they picked up Roy Oswalt, leaving the Mets, Twins and Dodgers as the most likely targets, although all seem hesitant at this late hour.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

I know it's wrong and I know it doesn't help the Cubs, but I hope Lilly stays anyway. I also hope he comes back next year. As shitty as the Cubs have been this year, I can't help but to think they aren't that far away from bouncing back, and that's mostly because of the pitching staff.

If Lilly ends up in LA (he could put up some great numbers in that ballpark for a while), I doubt he'd resign here afterward, but I'll take my chances. And Theriot can go fuck himself.
