<!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->It is unknown whether other parties submitted bids or whether Mark Cuban tendered an offer. Mr. Cuban, owner of the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks, was recently hit with allegations of insider trading. Over the summer, he reportedly made Tribune Co. a non-binding offer of $1.3 billion.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->
And there goes the dream...

Cuban was always a longshot, but when I read that he hadn't been involved in the process for months, and then shortly afterward the insider trading allegation was made public, it pretty much killed his bid for good. Ricketts is pretty close 2nd to Cuban in my mind. He's young, comes from a good family, is loaded, and is a true blue fan. He met his wife at Wrigley, and there's no doubt in my mind that his heart is in the right place. I don't know what it would mean for payroll, but I think he would build a first rate organization.

I've had it with your unnecessary commas.

I think I may actually like it as it may encourage people to cut and paste the meat of the article which makes it much easier to decide if i want to read the whole thing.

I'm really hoping that Cuban is still a darkhorse. He's not looking at jail time, it's all public, so perhaps it isn't hurting him as much as it might seem.

What am I talking about? MLB has been looking for any reason to deny him and he just gave it to them. Damn.

So, when is the winning bidder suppose to be determined? It sounds like the Pads think we need the future owner's approval before pulling the trigger on a trade. That makes me think it will be determined relatively soon.

Everything I've read is that a new owner will be submitted to MLB by year end, whatever that means. After that, you'd have to think a vote would need to take place among owners, so we're looking at January at the earliest for a deal to be official.

Kenney: Hope To Sell Cubs By Spring Training

About our payroll:
<!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->Kenney said all the bidders are aware of what the Cubs payroll is projected to be in 2009. Kenney wouldn't say, but sources indicated it will probably be between $140-$145 million.

"It leaves us enough room to address the issues we have to address and actually improve a 97-win club," he said. "If we wanted to deviate from the plan and take a shot at something completely different, I don't know if that happens in time [for the sale]. We won't have a transaction closed in time to do that."<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->
