All Time Best Cubs - Second Base - Andy - 12-22-2008 2B is a thin position. 1. Ryne Sandberg 2. Billy Herman 3. Glenn Beckert 4. Johnny Evers 5. Rogers Hornsby - this was goofy, as he only really had 1 good year with the Cubs near the end of his career (I hated adding him, as he's a career Cardinal, but the position sucked!) All Time Best Cubs - Second Base - Jody - 12-22-2008 Ryno, and it's not even close. All Time Best Cubs - Second Base - Lance - 12-22-2008 QUOTE (Jody @ Dec 22 2008, 04:06 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Ryno, and it's not even close. That says it all, really. I like the rest of the list. All Time Best Cubs - Second Base - Andy - 12-22-2008 There's no one even close to Ryno. Evers was WAY overrated. Beckert and Herman were good, not great. Hornsby only had 4 years with the Cubs and 1 that was awesome, 1 good (but he was injured) and the other 2 were meh. All Time Best Cubs - Second Base - Destined - 12-23-2008 No Rey Sanchez? Freddie Boom Boom Bynum. All Time Best Cubs - Second Base - BT - 12-23-2008 not sure where he belongs, but I have fond memories of Davey Lopes once he played for the Cubs. As a side note, I have a distinct memory of Billy Grabarkewitz's first game with the Cubs. Odd. All Time Best Cubs - Second Base - BT - 12-23-2008 and it's simply insane that Manny Trillo isn't on this list. except that he kinda sucked for the Cubs. All Time Best Cubs - Second Base - kbwsb - 12-23-2008 I disagree that Evers is overrated. (Tinker and Chance too, but it'd take me too long to explain why). Hornsby only had one good year as a Cub, but is was the greatest year any Cub 2nd baseman ever had. One mind-blowing number: 156 runs scored. I don't know what the NL record is, but I'd bet that number is pretty close. Even flashed a little leather, leading the league in double plays. Led the Cubs to the World Series, and won the MVP unanimously. Love him or hate him, that's a season. He was only a Cub for 4 seasons (hurt 2 1/3 of them) and he put those stats up in one of them. He also had a 2/3 season where he was awesome. I hesitate to put him higher simply because he was/is a Cardinal through and through.
