We're going to find Gathright's speed very useful all the time. I don't think he's going to start all that much over Fuk/Reed though, and neither would Fuld. However, we could still use Gathright's speed on a nightly basis. K/BB rate for a hitter (and K/Xbh if you want to get real crazy) is often the best predictor of future MLB success. Incidentally, the same is often true for pitchers. Final Winter League Stats - rok - 01-08-2009 I just watched an old KC game tonight (yes, I have no life) against the Tribe from last May. Gathright looked pretty damn good out in CF. He cut off some gappers that could have turned into triples, hit the cutoff man with some nice throws, really flashed the leather. He also showed off his speed on the bases well. I think we'll be very happy with him as a 25th man. Sam Fuld has no business being on this team. From what I've seen of him during the few games I've watched over the years, he's underrated in the OF, and his arm is stronger than advertised. Final Winter League Stats - Clapp - 01-08-2009 He's going to be our Tom Goodwin. We'll find him very useful. We've needed speed and he has plenty of it. I just don't see when Fuld would really play as the #3 CF. Gathright will at least pinch-run for us a lot. I don't care if he's the fastest guy in the world. |
