Prospect watch - Scarey - 02-25-2009

Just wanted to start up a thread for some of the prospects we'll be seeing in spring training. I see that Atkins, Stevens, Caridad, and Barney got in the game today. I think the three pitchers have an outside chance of getting in on the 25 man, with Stevens having the best chance of them. I'm surprised Barney was even invited to Spring Training. He must be a pretty good defender cause he didn't do much with the bat last year.

Arizona Phil also submitted a projected minor league camp roster. While it's interesting to see, who the hell predicts minor league camp rosters?

He is. I think he's had a lot of errors but the talent is there and that's a big part of why he was one of the most popular players in the country at Oregon State. He made some incredible plays in the College World Series. I'd think he's our most talented defensive shortstop in the system. Here's the MLB.com draft profile on him:

I don't see any of those pitchers making our roster anytime soon, but we'll see. They had Stevens closing today and that's what he's been doing before being with the team, so I think they'll continue having him work the late innings in the minors for a bit.

I really wish he could hit a little better. I love the way he plays the game otherwise. He was a blast to watch in the College World Series.

Has anyone heard anything about Chris Huseby?

He's as toast as a million dollar signing bonus 18 year old turned 20ish year old can be.
