What are your favorite unobvious Cub moments? - veryzer - 03-18-2009 heres one off the top of my head: in 1984 pete rose, then playing for the expos, hit a line shot up the middle in the ninth inning of a game that would have brought the expos back and given them the lead. but the shot hit lee smith on his ample ass and ricocheted into the air. shortstop dave owen caught it on the fly and doubled off the runner on first to preserve the victory and give big lee a most dubious of saves. It came against the Cardinals. Buckner was my favorite player back then and I taped every game when he came close to 200. I think he was stuck on 199 for a few games, IIRC. I watched that game over and over until I had it memorized. I was 8 years old. What are your favorite unobvious Cub moments? - Jody - 03-18-2009 I don't recall what game it was but in 84' my grandma and I were watching a Cubs game like we always did and she says to me "Ron Cey is going to hit a homer" and no sooner did she get the words out of her mouth he homered. What are your favorite unobvious Cub moments? - Coldneck - 03-18-2009 One of mine would be the game that Bill Murray and Steve Stone broadcasted. What are your favorite unobvious Cub moments? - Runnys - 03-18-2009 Steroids did wonders for Hill's power. What are your favorite unobvious Cub moments? - veryzer - 03-18-2009 anyone remember candy maldonado trying to leg out an inside the park home run on one leg? he literally fell on his face a good 10 to 15 short of home and was tagged out easily. What are your favorite unobvious Cub moments? - Giff - 03-18-2009 Kerry Wood tipping his hat to the crowd while he got a standing ovation after he got pulled in the 8th inning of that Cubs-Yankees game against Clemens in '03 . What are your favorite unobvious Cub moments? - wcplummer - 03-18-2009 I am getting foggy as I get older and have trouble remembering things. If it truly happened Mark Grace charging the mound against the Cardinals. If not it was a really great dream and you should have been there. What are your favorite unobvious Cub moments? - Andy - 03-18-2009 The Mongo McMichael game. Ron Coomer getting into it with Angel Hernandez, McMichael being thrown out of the park by Hernandez after singing the 7th inning stretch, the crazy ass final play in the bottom of the ninth and having first row tickets right by the Cubs on deck circle to watch the game. Friggin awesome! Sorry for the poor quality of the video, but it's what I could fine. What are your favorite unobvious Cub moments? - Giff - 03-18-2009 QUOTE (Andy @ Mar 18 2009, 02:50 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>The Mongo McMichael game. What are your favorite unobvious Cub moments? - MrSheps - 03-18-2009 One that comes to mind is when Sosa hit a home run for Arnie Harris after he died, I think in the last game of the season. I forget the details but I think his wife asked so Sosa to hit one for him, he did, and did something to indicate it was for him. or maybe it was just Chip relating the importance. So yeah, I really can't remember the details, but in crappy few years it was probably the highlight. Arnie was one of the reasons the Cubs are the loveable losers and not just the losers. What are your favorite unobvious Cub moments? - Destined - 03-18-2009 In 2005 when we swept the Dodgers at Dodger Stadium. That whole week was beautiful. On the last game of the LA series, DLee went 5 for 5, including the game winning HR. His average went from like .370 to .390. It was John Koronka's 1st start, as he took over for Prior after the elbow injury on the comebacker. We won, and there were a bunch of guys air sweeping Dodger fans out of the LA County Jail...err, I mean the bleachers. Carlos had a 1 hitter that should have been a no-no going the night before I believe, and on that Sunday he was dominate in San Diego at the game I was at as well. Lee was hot all week, because like I said, it was 2005. Also...dare I say the Barrett grand slam, or Juan Pierre stealing the Bonds' 714 or whatever milestone it was. Also, the first Wood start after the 20K game. He was just as good and I remember sitting there just waiting for every K. What are your favorite unobvious Cub moments? - Giff - 03-18-2009 Two more I'll never forget: 2004, Cubs-A's, Barrett doubled down the line to score Todd Walker from first to win in the 9th. I'll always remember Walker sliding through home and just laying there on his stomach with his arms in the air. And a not so great one, the next game I attended after the Wood-Clemens game in 2003, Prior struck out 16 through 8 against the Brewers, but Borowski gave up a 3-homer to Geoff Jenkins in the 9th to blow it, and the Cubs went into a horrible skid for the next few weeks. What are your favorite unobvious Cub moments? - rok - 03-18-2009 That game in '03 when Alfonseca stormed out of the bullpen and belly bumped an umpire and got tossed. I think it was over an Alou double down the line being called foul. Was that in the Cards series? That was comedy gold. |
