I don't like the idea of Miles or Fontenot back up third and ss for the Cubs. I find it hard to believe that Miles can make a throw from third to throw out Hector Villanueva at first. These guys arms just don't look very good. I would love to see if we could get Keppinger. The guy puts the bat on the ball and looked amazing in 2007. Any chance we can swing some of our out of options players for him?

A Guzman for Keppinger swap makes a lot of sense to me, but the Cubs haven't been attached to Keppinger yet. The Astros have, though.

I suggested that last week but then Fella correctly brought up how Guzman would have to make the roster. Guzman wouldn't make the rotation, and the only guy he could possibly beat out in the bullpen is Mike Lincoln, who was solid for them last year.

Lincoln sucks.
Plus, the Reds were so shitty last year that exposing Guzman to waivers may not be a risk to them.

He had a 4.48 ERA for them in 70 appearances last year, and is making just $550 K. Plus you know how Dusty loves his vets. If Lincoln doesn't work out, they call up somebody like Homer Bailey and put him in the pen. Also, they believe they can contend this year and they don't want to fill the need of the team they're chasing. When was the last time we made a legitimate deal with a team in the division? The only one that clearly comes to mind to me is the Aram/Lofton deal, and that was when Pittsburgh was out of contention.

I don't know that I'd call Guzman/Keppinger a legitimate deal. I think they'd prefer to have Guzman to Lincoln this year even though they think they're competing. The upside is so much greater, and with Jocketty now in charge, this is the kind of move he makes. And he should. It's a smart move for them.
