Drag Me to Hell - Butcher - 05-29-2009

I'm a huge Evil Dead fan -- and I was excited to hear Raimi was going to do a new horror flick. But then I saw the trailers for Drag Me to Hell (and saw that it was PG-13 -- usually a bad sign for a horror movie) and lost interest.

But it's getting crazy good reviews. I might not be able to get to it in the theater, but I'm pretty interested now...

the pg13 thing threw me too. figured i'd wait until a couple of you guys saw it first and then check it out. i have martyrs here now from netflix. looking forward to watching that tonight or tomorrow. i know it's off track but i took the boy to see night at the museum. first time i thought amy adams was hot, like really hot. as far as kids flicks go, it was ok. a couple of scenes w/ hank azaria and the one with jonah hill were great

I won tickets to see a sneak preview last week, but at the last minute couldn't make it. I was very pissed because I was waiting for this movie for a long time. Anyway, a couple of my friends went in my place and they loved it. They're huge horror and Raimi fans like me, so I trust their opinions much more than the critics.

I actually liked the trailers, and have heard that the PG-13 rating is about as close to an R as you can get.

Ok, went to see it tonight. It was quite good. Decent story and good characters. I also read that the cinematographer for David Lynch was also on this project and it shows. I really hope this is a taste of things to come for Raimi. Good times. I was spooked and had a lot of laughs the entire time. Old school Raimi is back. 4/5 stars.

I actually ended up seeing it on Saturday night.

Liked it a lot. It wasn't Evil Dead (or Evil Dead 2), but it was solid. There were a few great Evil Dead references...

Spoiler...

The Oldsmobile that the gypsy lady drives is from both Evil Dead movies (and other Raimi movies). The eyeball scene. I feel like there was one other thing that I'm not thinking of.

It was a lot of fun. Totally over the top. There were certainly a lot of shocks and "jump out of your chair" moments, but it wasn't all that scary. It was incredibly entertaining, though, and I was dying laughing at most of it.

I'd also give it 4 out of 5. Worth a viewing for sure.

Unfortunately, I'll never get a chance to see this in the theaters around here. It's depressing. We have 2 local theaters, each with 4 screens, and they're both showing the same crap.

Yup, I think fun was the key word for this film. It was such a good time. Great popcorn movie if you can stomach some of the scenes. And can you think of a more action packed scene in a car?

My girlfriend hated it and wanted to walk out.

Dealbreaker.

I require a litmus test with regard to certain horror movies (or movies in general) for any lady I'm interested in. This is one of the reasons why I am such a miserable failure in that department.

She (and I) thought it was going to be a straightforward horror movie. The campy, off-the-wall shit caught her off guard.

I could see it being a little weird if you don't know what to expect from Raimi.
