I'm Excited!!! - BackyardLegend - 06-18-2009

It'll be nice to see us set some records this year.

The record I think this team is eyeing first is fastest average half inning completed. By that I mean the offensive part of the inning. I should have started my watch for this past half inning that just happened. Z swung and missed 3 times. Soriano grounded out to Alexi in 2 pitches. And Babe Theriot came up first pitch hacking--to the 2nd basemen.

The other record is crappiest AVG/OBP by a leadoff man. I don't feel like looking up all time stats here, but Soriano's numbers for getting on base have to be some of the worst ever. I mean hell, this makes me yearn for the Brian McRae years.

Soriano may be able to club the ball sometimes, but he's right on par with the rest of these winners here:
Hardball Times: Worst Leadoff Hitters

Holy crap Lou. What the hell is it going to take for you to drop Soriano from the lineup? We all know you don't like Fukudome, so you drop him to 7th when he struggles. At least he is getting on close to a .400 clip. Soriano is approaching the Mendoza line in average, and the--let's call it the--Brian Hunter line in OBP and without hesitation, he's #1 all day. Did you print out lineup cards with his name permanently on them?

How pathetic.

Thanks, and despite today's Silk the Shocker of a win--I'm still pissed.

Well I'm glad we are winning, but Soriano is still no bueno at the leadoff spot.

The win streak is nice and I hope we extend it, but Sori's .250 OBP over the last 3 sure isn't helping. With the way Lee is hitting it would be nice if he would start hitting.

The team still isn't hitting all that well overall, but we've been getting much more timely hitting, and the bottom of the order has been contributing as well, which is nice. That's been the key. I'm happy with the way the weekend ended up, but if the top of the order doesn't wake the fuck up, this won't be sustainable.

I'm optimistic that it will though.

I call bullshit!

Lee, Soto, and Bradley have all started hitting. Overall, I think the offense has taken a step forward over the past couple of weeks. The Cubs are to the point where the struggles of individuals can be overcome because not everyone is struggling simultaneously.

26 runs and 41 hits the last 4 games, thats pretty crazy, that was like 2 weeks worth of production before, lol.

Some very good signs though over the past week or so like Ruby said. Bradley is starting to really hit, Theriot is finally looking like himself, Geo crushed several pitches and is swinging much better. Fuk also looked better than he has since April and of course Lee is on fire.

Soriano still looks completely lost though for sure. Its a lot easier to handle a long slump when others are hitting though. Eventually if his track record says anything, he is gonna get real hot. Its been quite a while though. I honestly wouldn't mind giving him a week off. Let him start fresh, get Fox some ABs.

Also, for now Andres Blanco needs to be starting everyday, I really think he has given us a spark. Yeah he is only hitting .241 but he is great on defense and actually does everything well fundamentally which is very refreshing. He has also had a few huge timely hits. Of course when everyone is healthy, he belongs on the bench, but for now he is far better than Miles or Freel and should be starting. He is also a hilarious interview.

I really think they need to find a spot for Blanco on the 25 man when Ramirez gets back. If/when Freel gets back, he needs to take Fox's spot. Then, when Ramirez gets back, I think they need to DL someone else or cut ties with Freel for a spot for Blanco.
