UDFA Signings:

RHP Jesse Ginley (drafted in the 43rd round by the Cubs in 2008)
LHP Daley Cox, Santa Fe CC (FL)<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Like Dail, Pruitt signed and had his contract voided. Both are now FA. No details out yet. However, since the Cubs had contract issues last year and were fined a big chunk of $, I wouldn't be surprised if this was an administrative error on their part. In the case of Dail, it could have to do with an old injury and a failed physical - but I'm going to bet the front office is 2 for 2 in terms of messing up a contract.

Wonder how much we will end up offering LHP Brooks Raley?
The guy could be a 1st round pick in the future, and he is looking for serious cash for a 6th round pick.

I don't think that's likely. Last year, the Cubs got fined for letting a guy participate before the contract details had been sent to the MLB. These 2 guys never played and had their contracts voided before they stepped foot on a field. I'm guessing they either failed a physical or failed a drug test.

Dial was involved in a freak accident in the Cope Cod League last year

The Cubs signed their 19th round draft pick, C Sergio Burruel. He looks like a very intriguing, young prospect.

<!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->Round 19, Sergio Burruel, C, Trevor G. Browne (Arizona) High School: Burruel transferred from Mexico to the Arizona high school and hit 17 homers in 25 games. He has a big body and is a good catch-and-throw guy<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

If it was mentioned, my bad, but Kevin Goldstein(Baseball Prospectus) said tonight that LeMahieu reports to Peoria tomorrow I believe it was.

That's correct. He is scheduled to rotate between SS/2B/DH with Flaherty and Lake.

2009 Draftees - Coldneck - 07-28-2009

CHICAGO -- The Cubs agreed to terms Monday with left-handed pitcher Austin Kirk, the team's third-round pick in the June First-Year Player Draft.

Kirk was 9-1 with a 0.45 ERA at Owasso (Okla.) High School, striking out 111 batters. In three seasons, he went 23-1 with a 1.38 ERA and 224 strikeouts.

With the addition of Kirk, the Cubs have agreed to terms with 26 of their 50 selections from the Draft, including nine of their first 10. The only player unsigned is left-handed pitcher Brooks Raley, who was selected in the sixth round out of Texas A&M.

Kirk was assigned to the Cubs' Rookie League team in Mesa, Ariz.

Meanwhile, infielder DJ LeMahieu, the Cubs' second-round pick out of LSU, was to join Class A Peoria on Tuesday. LeMahieu helped the Tigers win the College World Series.

Callis:
<!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->In the biggest above-slot signing to date, the Cubs signed Texas A&M lefthander Brooks Raley for $750,000. A sixth-rounder, Raley received $600,000 above the maximum the commissioner’s office recommended for all picks after the fifth round this year.

Raley was the best two-way player in college baseball in the first half of the season and projected as a possible supplemental first-round choice before dropping off down the stretch. The consensus among scouts is that he has a brighter future on the mound, where he commands an 87-90 mph sinker, a slider and a changeup. He also throws a four-seam fastball that peaks at 93 mph and a curveball. Raley is a quality athlete and competitor, though scouts wonder about his lack of an out pitch and how well he’ll hold up at 6-foot-3 and 185 pounds. He was a draft-eligible sophomore, giving him extra leverage.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

So his name is Brooks, he's from Texas, and he's a pitcher that can hit? Historically that hasn't ended well for the Cubs.
