The fact that the BoSox were looking at Victor Martinez with Varitek still catching made me wonder how many players with over 10 years of experience are still on the same team they came up with?
NYY - Posada, Jeter and Rivera
Boston - Varitek.
Toronto - V Wells and Halladay
Baltimore - Roberts (9 years)
Tampa - No one
Detroit - Inge (9 years)
Minnesota - Cuddyer (9 years)
Chicago - Buehrle
Cleveland - No one
Kansas City - No one
LAA - No one
Texas - M Young
Seattle - Ichiro (9 years)
Oakland - E Chavez
Philadelphia - Rollins
Florida - No one
Atlanta - C Jones
NYM - No one

Martinez mainly plays 1B now, just saying.

Andy, that's a very interesting list. The Yanks have been more lucky than loyal: none of those 3 guys (especially Jeter and Mo) have done anything that would make a team <i>want</i> to trade them. Jeter is actually enjoying an MVP-calibre season.
I wonder if it has always been this way. Trading is as much a part of baseball as the home run.
It should be noted, also, that for any player to play in MLB for 10 seasons, he usually has to be damn good, which eliminates 90% of all players (although guys like Inge and Cuddyer are hardly big stars.)

These days, if you are with the same team for >5 years, you're considered extremely loyal. It seems that there are still a large number of those types around, even here in Chicago. I don't see it as a problem. Most of the roster turnover around the league has been caused by teams like Pitt, Cleveland, Nats/Montreal and is a result of financial constraints, not necessarily free agency or as a result of baseball decisions.
