Washburn - ruby23 - 01-08-2010 <!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->Jarrod Washburn turned down a one-year, $5 million offer from the Twins last week, according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. Washburn is represented by super agent Scott Boras, who is seeking a larger annual salary for his client. He may eventually turn back to the Twins but it appears negotiations are off for the time being. The 35-year-old lefty was 9-9 with a 3.78 ERA in 28 starts last season.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd--> I'd like to see someone like him signed to fill the 4th or 5th spot in the rotation. Washburn - jeffy - 01-08-2010 Sounds alright to me. Washburn - Coldneck - 01-08-2010 If I remember correctly he was pretty bad prior to last season. I'd be okay with him being a #5. Washburn - rok - 01-08-2010 I'd still rather have Sheets or Wang. We have too many #4/#5 types already. I'd prefer a higher risk/reward. Washburn - bz - 01-09-2010 What exactly happened to Wang? Why did he just completely lose his skill set? That was the beginning of the problems. Washburn - savant - 01-09-2010 Did he actually have elbow or shoulder problems? Washburn - ruby23 - 01-09-2010 <!--quoteo(post=75104:date=Jan 9 2010, 11:08 AM:name=savant)-->QUOTE (savant @ Jan 9 2010, 11:08 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><!--quotec-->Did he actually have elbow or shoulder problems?<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd--> Yeah, there was a shoulder issue after the foot thing, maybe caused by overcompensation from the foot injury. Washburn - savant - 01-09-2010 Shoulders scare the shit out of me, there is just not a good history of people coming back to pitch effectively after having bum shoulders. Washburn - savant - 01-09-2010 Let's sign Sheets, sign either Lopez or Hudson to play second base, and take a late look in the bargain bin for a decent bullpen arm and a back-up outfielder. I would be ecstatic about that for an offseason. Signing a second baseman means there will be no rushing Castro to the bigs. He will only get called up when his play says he is ready. If by the middle of next season he is ready we would be much better defensively up the middle with Castro and Hudson. Theriot can be moved for prospects, or something of need. Fontenot and Baker are both decent bench options.
