Losing momentum - Andy - 05-10-2010 Is it just my perception, or have the Cubs had a really high number of games in which they've had an inning in which they score to either significantly close the gap or go ahead followed by an inning in which the opposition immediately scores? It just feels like the game is either won by the Cubs in the first 3 innings, or we stick around until about the 6th or 7th, score a few runs in our half of the inning and immediately return the favor in the next half inning. I have nothing to back this up, other than feeling like it happens all the time. I'm probably wrong. Losing momentum - rok - 05-10-2010 This team hasn't kept momentum going for more than an inning or 2 all season. That's what happens when your offense has zero consistency and your bullpen blows ass. I don't expect things to change. Our luck, Amarmis and Lee will start hitting, and the rest of the lineup will go on a cold streak. And then our rotation will go through a tough stretch and probably waste quality innings from the pen. This team hasn't come close to firing on all cylinders so far, but that is what highly flawed teams do. Losing momentum - Butcher - 05-10-2010 It's still hard to figure out how this team is so much worse than last year's team. Losing momentum - ruby23 - 05-10-2010 I think this team is better than last year's, I also expect a nice run to happen soon. Losing momentum - Jody - 05-10-2010 It's just really frustrating when you have games where we score in double digits and you see what this lineup is capable of doing and then you have games where they shit the bed. This lineup can be scary good if they can start clicking together and I think Ruby is right about a nice run coming hopefully sooner than later. Losing momentum - The Dude - 05-10-2010 at least there's this... <!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->Where was the celebration? The Cubs had cause for a little one last week, but the occasion slipped right past them, along with the rest of us. They have played 7,007 games since the last time they were no-hit -- Sandy Koufax's perfect game in 1965. The record had been held by the Yankees, who played 7,003 consecutive games without being no-hit from Sept. 20, 1958, through June 11, 2003. The Cubs tied that mark last Wednesday in Pittsburgh, and broke it last Thursday. Credit alert Tribune reader Nick Howell of Brentwood, Tenn., for bringing this to our attention. It was passed along to the Cubs and researched further by Elias. Howell sent an e-mail saying he thought the Cubs were closing in on the record. It turns out they were doing even better. How did Howell know the milestone was being approached when no one was talking about it? "I have been a Cubs fan since I was eight in 1989, and I try to find at least one positive even if they lose,'' Howell said. "I like going to (unusual) games. Three were before I was born and the other two between (Greg) Maddux and (Roger) Clemens I went to, one in Chicago and one in Houston. I just love baseball.'' Howell should have been in Pittsburgh last week. We let him down.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd--> I predict a no-hitter vs. the Cubs this week. Losing momentum - satchel - 05-11-2010 it seems the team is always losing any little momentum they get... I really cant believe lee and ramirez are still batting in the 3-5 spots... they shoudl be moved way down with they way they are struggling... Losing momentum - Coach - 05-11-2010 It's funny how ESPN goes on and on about the struggles of David Ortiz and what can the Red Sox do. The Cubs have 2 guy like that right now. Losing momentum - ColoradoCub - 05-11-2010 Good thing we have the highest paid hitting coach in baseball to turn them around! The offense has been wildly inconsistent, and the few blowouts that we've had so far only skew the numbers in our favor. Too many outliers, and I would wager that the median number is around 3-4 runs scored per ballgame, which blows. Losing momentum - funkster - 05-11-2010 Once again I think the bigger concern here is Ramirez. Lee historically is bad in the early months of the season, Ramirez is just lost.
