Honestly, I would love for all this to workout this season. I'd love to see us making a charge to win the division. Here's the thing though. By all accounts, Alfsonso Soriano is extremely fragile mentally. There's a big possibility that benching him right now will completely take him out of it mentally. And down the road, Soriano is the guy that's going to make a difference on this team, not Sam Fuld.
I'm not saying anyone is wrong for wanting to ride out Fuld's early success, but I think Soriano, more than just about any other player, is an extremely difficult case to handle when he's in a slump like this, and I think that's why Lou hasn't done anything.

If you want Fuld in there you can get Soriano, Fuk and Bradley rest without straight up benching Soriano and breaking his brain. It's not like Bradley has been lighting the world on fire, and I'm sure Fuk wouldn't mind a day off every once in a while.

Hmm..."by all accounts" wasn't what I should have said, and not really what I meant. How about, "from everything I've gathered, he seems to be very mentally fragile." He can't handle being moved out of the leadoff spot, he couldn't handle (at first) being moved to the outfield. And I've always attributed his streaky-ness to his mental condition too; when his confidence is up, he rolls, but as soon as he struggles and loses confidence, he can't do anything right and looks like a 4 year old at the plate. So, while I admittedly don't know the guy, I've always had the impression he was mentally unstable.

I'm not positive, but I feel like Fontenot is out of options. And I don't see how the team could go with Ryan Theriot, Andres Blanoco, and Jeff Baker as their only middle infielders. Fontenot's not going anywhere for now.

Just so I get this straight. You want to bench Alfonso Soriano a multiple time MVP who gets his career numbers every year, for Sam Fuld?

Maybe if our lead off hitter had gone better than 3/28 in those series, we would have at least had a chance. Also, who cares what Soriano has done in the past. The fact is that right now, and for a very long time this season, he has not been hitting for shit. To keep leading him off (or playing him at all if he's injured) is absolutely foolish. If he's injured, then let him take the time off to recover so he can actually contribute. If he is just sucking for no apparent reason, I think you've got to shift things around and try to do the best thing for the team.

Just gonna throw this out there . . . by Monday, Sam Fuld will probably be in AAA again. If you really think the sucess or lack thereof for the Chicago Cubs is contingent on anything he's done or will do, you're a complete and utter fool.

I mean seriously, batting Soriano first game after game after game. It's ridiculous. Why can't he be moved down in the order--because he doesn't feel comfortable anywhere else? Because he'll see worse pitches? Bullshit.
Honestly, I would love for all this to workout this season. I'd love to see us making a charge to win the division. And while it's nice to win some big games here against the Brewers, you have to be delusional to think that the Cubs can take this division and more importantly, win playoff games with Soriano as it's leadoff hitter.
