Ace is pretty much spot on here.

Why would you guys rather have Dye over Gomes? What advantage does Dye bring to the table. Especially if you take into account how badly he ended the year, and consider the fact that he has been hurt a LOT in his career?

I'm worried about Gomes' track record.

Dye might be Chili Davis...a professional hitter who will be able to swing the bat until he's in the grave.

I don't trust Gomes at all. At least Dye could have a rebound year. Gomes' good years are spaced too far apart for my taste.

You're right, I don't like chocolate milk.

Dye - bz - 01-22-2010

Gomes just isn't good. He's average. Dye could be average or could be pretty fuckin good for a period of time (Jim Edmonds?).

Dye - Fly - 01-23-2010

Jermaine Dye went to Will C. Wood High School.

I'd imagine he's also going to cost at least twice as much as Gomes. Assuming that we're expecting the no. 4 OF to get, what, 350 Plate Appearances...give me Gomes. I'd rather have the younger/more powerful version than Dye.

And I know that Dye's career slg is higher than Gomes, I'm just thinking one can expect a continued drop as he gets older. 36 yrs old vs 29 yrs old is a no-brainer to me.

If our 4th OF only gets 350 at bats I think we'll be in pretty good shape. Although I'm afraid our 4th will get a whole lot more ab's than that due to injury/sucktitude.

I could see that too. And I think if that happens, it's not going to matter which one of the two it is, so I'd still take the cheaper option.

Dye - Runnys - 01-24-2010

I would rather have Nady over both of them. If healthy, Nady could easily be a starter by mid-season.
