I'm pretty sure Cueto just got hurt in this Dr vs. Panama game.

Is Dusty managing?

WBC Rosters - Clapp - 03-08-2009

He was fine, he got stepped on at 1st base in the 2nd inning and stayed in.

WBC Rosters - wcplummer - 03-08-2009

The trade of DeRosa may be what cost us this season.

No... it will come down to Aramis and Alf actually hitting in the playoffs, and our starters pitching like they can then.

You're assuming they make the playoffs.

I don't see why you'd assume otherwise.

He just hit Randall Simon to lead off the inning.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->
There's a sausage in Milwaukee that just turned into a Marmol fan.

WBC Rosters - Auz - 03-09-2009

CAN I GET A FUCK YEAH!

Australia - 17
Mexico - 7

Game called after 8 innings due to the mercy rule.

Everyone was expecting Mexico to dominate and they were after 4 innings leading 7-3, but me boys fucking smashed the cunts! 22 hits, new WBC record! A team made up of mostly veteran journeymen minor leaguers and young up and coming prospects, with a few local lads. We didn't resort to drafting players who's grandparents-neighbours-dogs-cousins were born in Australia during WWI which alot of nations did (aka Randall Simon playing for Netherlands, Hairston brothers playing for Mexico).

Probably doesn't mean much to you lads, but its probably the 2nd biggest moment in Australia baseball after winning silver at the Athens Olympics.

FUCK YEAH!

WBC Rosters - Clapp - 03-09-2009

Yeah I turned the game on when it was 7-5 Mexico, saw Australia tie it but that was the last I knew. Changed it back and it's 17-7 in the 8th, incredible.

WBC Rosters - Brock - 03-09-2009

What's with the mercy rule? Let em pour that shit on!

How would you feel if Carlos Marmol blew out his arm pitching in the 9th inning of a 13 run game?

Pretty shitty, but this isn't Little League - if they're gonna do this silly little tournament at least do it right.

WBC Rosters - Clapp - 03-09-2009

<!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->Maestri, who is ranked as the Cubs' No. 29 prospect by Baseball America, pitched a masterful 1 2-3 innings against the heart of Venezeula's powerful order. He didn't blink when hitters like Miguel Cabrera, Magglio Ordonez and Jose Guillen came to the plate but did admit afterward that it was his biggest challenge ever as a pitcher.

"I was just out there not thinking about how good those guys are,'' Maestri said in English, with an accent that would endear him to Chicago fans. "If you're out there and you're thinking you've got Cabrera and all that, you're screwed. I was just going to go out and try my best.''

Maestri was the third reliever used by the Italians in the fifth inning, when a scoreless tie turned into a 4-0 deficit. He entered with one out and a man on second base and delivered immediate results. Cabrera grounded out; Ordonez looked at a fastball on the inside corner for strike three.

In the fifth inning, Maestri did walk Jose Lopez and Ramon Hernandez back to back with one out but neutralized those mistakes by getting groundballs for outs against Guillen, Cesar Izturis and Endy Chavez.

"I was happy with how I pitched,'' Maestri said. "I pitched in a scrimmage a few days ago and it didn't go so well. This was much better. This was as good as I have felt on a mound.''

Maestri is developing into more than a finesse pitcher. The pitch he threw to strike out Ordonez was recorded as 96 mph but that is probably generous. It is safe to say his fastball sat in the 91-93 mph range. He kept hitters off balance with a tight slider, which is considered one of the best breaking balls in the Cubs' farm system.

Mestri split last season between high-A Dayton and Double-A Tennessee, making 16 starts total. His results weren't as good as in 2007, when he pitched as a reliever, and he spent time on the disabled list with a tender shoulder, and he is expected to be moved back into a relief role when he travels to Arizona after Italy is eliminated. There are a lot of good arms between him and Chicago but Baseball America projects that he could put himself into immediate big-league consideration with a strong season.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->
