WBC Rosters - Auz - 03-07-2009

Fukodume looked clueless in his at bats against Korea...

WBC Rosters - Clapp - 03-07-2009

Sut with the quote of the day. Jason Bay up, full count, tying run at 2nd, 9th inning:

"You don't have at bats like this in Pittsburgh", referring to Bay spending all those years there.

WBC Rosters - Clapp - 03-07-2009

Maestri's in to face Miggy and Maggs with 1 out and 2 runners on. Good luck!

Hello! I like this kid. Cabrera grounds out to 3rd, paints the corner on a fastball to Ordonez. Ran off the mound all pumped up Zambrano style. Pretty impressive stuff.

Comes back out for the next inning, gets Carlos Guillen to bounce out to short. He reminds me a lot of Prior when he's entering his windup.

Now all of a sudden he can't throw a strike, walks the next 2 hitters. Then gets Izturis and Endy Chavez to groundout though.

What does he have stuff wise?

WBC Rosters - Brock - 03-08-2009

Is this just on the MLB Network or is it going to be on ESPN too? I'm still waiting to see a baseball game in HD on my new tv!

And wasn't there talk of the MLB Network going HD in spring sometime?

He was just throwing a fastball and breaking ball from what I saw but both were good. I'd say his fastball was 93-95. Plenty good enough looking stuff and did it against some great hitters. It's incredible the young power arms the Cubs have developed in recent years and there's already a few that have opened my eyes this year.

I'm pretty sure this is the only game that's been on MLB Net, the rest have been on ESPN and ESPN2. I believe more will be on MLB coming up though.

Soto looked good earlier too. Singled, doubled, and walked I believe. He also missed a grand slam to right field by 3 feet.

WBC Rosters - Brock - 03-08-2009

Holy shit I just saw that Latroy Hawkins is on the USA team? That's the best they could get?

I seen that too.
So much for him having figuring things out.
Slow breaking balls away have him mystified.

It was a LH starter, so it should have been Reed When the RH reliever came in, he had a nice single to left.

WBC Rosters - Fella - 03-08-2009

Fuk hit .276 against lefties last year and only .251 against righties, just sayin.

His OPS was 17 points higher against righties, though. Also just sayin'.

Yeah all 10 of his HR were off righties, so he obviously hits the ball harder more often against righties, my point was just that he isn't that type of hitter that sucked against lefties, his walks and strikeouts stayed the same and his batting average and OBP were even quite a bit higher, so the statement that he only sucked because it was a lefty wasn't too comforting to me.

From watching him last year I actually think he handles a lefty curevball as well as any pitch there is. He slaps it into left field very often which is probably why his batting average was higher against lefties but he had no power.

I think he stopped doing that later in the year, though. I can't think of a time in August or September where he actually waited on an outside, offspeed pitch, and slapped it the other way.

I just remember him spinning like a retarding whirling dervish.
