QUOTE Speaking of Byrd, he said he found nothing untoward about the Reds’ Joey Votto not wanting to pat a Cub on the back after Byrd helped the NL win the All-Star Game the other night.

“That’s just the competitiveness in Joey Votto,” Marlon said. “He’s an MVP candidate right now. He’s going to say what he believes. At the same time, I don’t think any Cub is going to be patting anybody on the Cincinnati Reds on the back.”

Byrd later was laughing because he said he probably talked with Votto more than he did with anybody else during the all-star festivities.

That must've been torture.

I like Votto. His comments have not changed my mind. I like that he doesn't like one of his rivals and has the courage to say so. It's refreshing.

So I guess the fact that he was paling around with Byrd for the 2 days makes him a courageous weasel?

QUOTE CINCINNATI (AP)—Reds first baseman Joey Votto(notes) says he shows his feelings about Chicago Cubs fans by refusing to sign autographs for them.

Votto declined to congratulate Cubs outfielder Marlon Byrd(notes) following his impressive defensive play during the All-Star game Tuesday. Afterward, he told ESPN that he doesn’t like the Cubs.

Votto clarified his remarks Friday, saying he has great respect for the Cubs. He added that he “can’t say as much for their fans.”

The Cubs clinched the NL Central title in Cincinnati in 2007, Votto’s first season in the majors. Thousands of Cubs fans were in the stands at Great American Ball Park for that game. I was at 2 of those games in Cincy, so I guess I'm part of the problem. Now, I'm really loving the fact that we got under this douche's skin from day 1.

Reds fans have always been burnt up by that - the stadium is always literally half blue. He's pretty close with the fans, so I guess that's where this is all coming from.

Then be upset with Reds fans for not filling up their own ballpark. His frustration is misguided.

I hope he gets speared in the groin the next time he's at Wrigley. I mean an actual spear, like a javelin, thrown from the stands. I hope he gets speared in the genitals like that kid in "Carrie 2: The Rage."
