Z gave up 23 freakin' walks and 29 hits in 32.1 innings in the month of August!
How the hell did he give up 6 walks to the Padres and 7 walks to the Giants and not get shelled?
He lost both games but still only gave up 1 run to the Padres and 2 runs to the Giants. Sorry but as much respect as I have for Z, he's unlikely to be able to do that on again anytime soon. For those 2 games, he was lucky.
Over his career, Z has had his share of bad luck so maybe this was sun shining on a dead dog's ass but I wouldn't expect him to repeat giving up 29 hits and 23 walks and only 8 earned runs again in a month.

Luck tends to even out over a full season, and he's only pitched 104+ innings so far, so I think the outlier in the above numbers is the BB total, not the earned runs that resulted.

I meant the month of August was an outlier. He's never come close to those types of BB/9 at any time over his career. I'm not saying his control his back or that it hasn't been a problem, but it's hard to imagine that is the new norm for him over a full season, since his numbers were skewed so much after one month.

Yeah, not sure what he was watching. Z was actually really good through last August. Same for 2008. The fact that he finished poorly only tells me that something was physically wrong with Z and he ran out of gas. As a matter of fact, he has spent time on the DL over the past few seasons, so this nonsense about his demise being <b>purely</b> pitching related as Hendry is implying gets kind of old.

If you go by WARP, except for a small bump in 2006, Zambrano has gotten progressively worse every single season since 2004. Hopfeully 2011 breaks that trend.
