Quote:If we could get Pujols for league minimum with the Angels paying the rest of his salary, so he could finish his career on the Cubs bench, I'd consider it...just for the comedy.
lol

Jerry Dipoto Likely Out As Angels GM

MLB Trade Rumors / by Charlie Wilmoth / 4 hours ago

Angels players believe Jerry Dipoto is out as the Angels GM, Jeff Passan of Yahoo! Sports tweets, and ESPNs Jerry Crasnick quotes a source within the game who says that Dipoto is definitely out (via Twitter). The team has yet to make any move official, and what might have happened isnt yet entirely clear, but various writers late reported news similar to Passan and Crasnick's Tuesday night, painting a fairly consistent picture.

MLB.com's Alden Gonzalez reported that Dipoto was considering resigning in the wake of the Angels organizational tensions. FOX Sports Ken Rosenthal, meanwhile, tweeted that two sources told him Dipoto had packed up his office (though he noted the possibility that Dipoto might simply have been acting out of emotion). Crasnick tweeted that strife between Dipoto and manager Mike Scioscia had only increased since Rosenthal reported earlier this week that the two again werent getting along (after having also had significant disagreements in 2012). Crasnick also indicated that Dipoto approached Angels owner Arte Moreno with an ultimatum that backfired.

Bleh.

I remember when Dipoto was considered the hot shit GM after all those signings a few years ago. Interesting how things change.

Mike Scioscia and his coaches were ignoring the front office’s scouting data on defensive positioning and pitch selection. A meeting with the coaching staff on Friday turned contentious, and on Sunday, Dipoto met with the players to inform them they would be receiving the data directly, since he had no faith in their coaches to pass it along. That was untenable, and it lasted two days.

I don't think this reflects as poorly on Dipoto as is does on Scioscia. If you are actively ignoring scouting reports, you're just being an asshole.

MLB News & Notes (other than Cubs or Sox) - Bricklayer - 07-01-2015

I'm just saying, he might still be considered a hot shit GM, his manager was in open mutiny against his vision and philosophy. Dipoto didn't get fired, he quit.

MLB News & Notes (other than Cubs or Sox) - jstraw - 07-01-2015

The manager serves at the pleasure of the GM. Sciatica should have been fired.

MLB News & Notes (other than Cubs or Sox) - rok - 07-01-2015

Wonder if DiPoto eventually ends up with the Braves as their GM when the dust settles.

MLB News & Notes (other than Cubs or Sox) - funkster - 07-01-2015

It blows my mind that Moreno is backing his Manager over his GM, when the GM has a much wider influence over your organization by far. He should just make MS his Manager/GM.

MLB News & Notes (other than Cubs or Sox) - rok - 07-01-2015

Sounds like ownership tried to make a last ditch effort to retain him, but that obviously didn't work. If I'm DiPoto there's no way I'd go back.

MLB News & Notes (other than Cubs or Sox) - Andy - 07-01-2015

As I was watching Porcello get blown up (again), I got to wondering about his contract. I knew he was a mid-level free agent this past off season. I did not, however, know that after signing him to a 1 year, $12.5M contract the BoSox decided that despite only once having an era under 4.00, they would give Porcello a 4yr/$82.5M contract extension. Holy shit! I do not remember hearing about that.

4 years/$82.5M (2016-19)
 • signed extension with Boston 4/7/15
 • $0.5M signing bonus
 • 16:$20M, 17:$20M, 18:$21M, 19:$21M
 • limited no-trade protection (may block deals to three clubs)

and that's more money than they "reportedly" offered Lester.

He's not any better than Mike Baxter, and he's a malcontent.

MLB News & Notes (other than Cubs or Sox) - funkster - 07-02-2015

Yeah, I see no reason to pick him up.

MLB News & Notes (other than Cubs or Sox) - rok - 07-02-2015

He's also the most ancient looking 29 year old I've ever seen.
