Quote:Are any of those dudes pitchers?

Edwards and Johnson.

If Hendry were still in charge, he'd probably try to convert 1/2 of them into Randy Wells types.

Keep in mind they also think Paul Blackburn has the ceiling of a number 2.  Gonna keep my eye on his this year.

Also want to see what happens with Jacob Hannemann.  I get the feeling the FO really likes this kid even though we don't much about him.

Baez, Bryant, Almora, Alcantra and Vogelback are all top five in their position group as well according to the MLB site.

Well...that's encouraging.

Got a chance to meet Brett Jackson yesterday, he was working out at Cal. Hopefully he cashes in on his last chance.

MLB.com unveiled its top 100 prospects tonight.  7 Cubs on the list.

#7 - Baez

#9 - Bryant

#18 - Almora

#42 - Edwards

#49 - Soler

#89 - Alcantara

#100 - Johnson

And if Vizcaino is truly healthy, he'd be on that list too. Nice showing.

If 3 of those dudes stick in the majors we'll be in pretty good shape.

Quote:The write up on Baez is supposed to be particularly good.
He gave him an 80 on power potential, which is pretty much beyond rare. The final line sums it up pretty well:

Quote:

He needs to shorten up against arm-side pitching and stay in his approach, and he needs to slow the game down in the field and let his hands and arm help the cause rather than hurt it, but he should continue to crush in the upper minors and force a major-league decision at some point in 2014. The Cubs could have a generational talent in Baez.

I'm kind of suprised Vogelbach didn't make the top 100.

Man it would be nice to have a superstar.

Yeah, I totally missed that. He should be at least borderline though, but wonder if the defensive limitations were the main reason for excluding him.

Farm System - CFOrfan - 01-24-2014

You know what would be cool? A package built around Soler and Johnson for CarGo if the Rockies start slow and Vogelbach package for a #2 type next year. CarGo + a solid 2 with Bryant, Almora, Baez, etc would put the Cubs in 2015 wild card chatter

It is extremely difficult for a guy that only projects as a 1B/DH to get notoriety. If he had put up Baez type numbers, he likely would be in the top 100, but probably still on the lower half.
